I would head to another physician (possibly, a Natural Doctor), get another cholesterol check done (even if my Insurance didn't cover) at a different lab, and either have the numbers confirmed or debunked. Labs have been known to make serious errors, and often.

I'm a smoker, as well - I have not quit, yet. I don't know if I ever will be able to, but I take tons of supplements with specific attention paid to Rheumatoid Arthritis . I also refuse to take the drugs that modern medical doctors would have me take for the roooomatizz - the cures are often worse than the diseases.
