Re: Going to Court THIS TUESDAY 1/16/07

Thanks for all who replied to me. SoulfulSurvivor: This is one thing I really needed to hear:

"Unfortunately, what we, the victims, must realize is that the "good qualities" that we fell in love with were not real, at any time. The abuser presents what he/she believes that a victim will want, mirroring our own likeable qualities as their own. As for being sorry? Puhlease - they are sorry that they left marks, but not that that they inflicted trauma!"

I had a feeling that this might be part of the abuse: to hook me with the notion that we were a lot alike and had a lot in common. That was what I 'fell in love' with. He had me convinced that we were 'soul mates' and were meant to be together. But now that i've had all this time to reflect upon what went on in our so-called 'relationship', i realize that it all had to be a game for him.

i could go on and on, but getting back: I was asked to appear in court, and i called to ask why as i had already testified. turns out i did not need to go. he showed when he was supposed to go, and they offered him a lesser charge if he complied with anger management classes, etc. He was supposed to return in September to follow up, but apparently he did not (he's above the law, you know), and a bench warrant was issued. Apparently he was picked up in December, and since he was non-compliant, they are sending him to trial by jury and I have to testify against him on Tuesday. I'm confident that he cannot afford a good lawyer, however, i am concerned that the defense will try to destroy my credibility. There were no witnesses. I took photos two days later, and it took ten days(maybe less) from the date of the incident to go file a report. It took so long because the incident occurred about 40 miles from where I live, and it was not convenient for me to go before that; I was also told that it did not matter if i did not do it immediately.

He does have a prior assualt record (two arrests that I am aware of), so it's not as if he'll appear to be a model citizen. I'm just afraid that they will somehow find him 'not guilty' and the case will be closed forever...
