Re: firefox .pdf problem

After just a little playing and testing, I've found that using Firefox to open (or trying to open) files found on the web that are in PDF format may cause a variety * of messages to pop up. This said, I have yet to have a problem opening PDF files.

FWIW, the current version of Firefox (as found in the About Mozilla Firefox menu which is under the Help menu tree in the Firefox Browser Window) is:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.8) Gecko/20061025 Firefox/1.5.0.8

*I did a simple Scroogle search for the term "PDF Documents", using the option for search criteria to return a of 100 hits. Then I went down the hit list clicking on each item in the list that showed it was sourced by a URL ending in PDF. In some cases the PDF opened up quickly without any intervening messages. In some cases there was an intervening message but so far I have not found these to be of the variety of "can't open PDF" error message, but instead are informational messages, in some cases suggesting there may be a "translation" or "conversion" or "encryption" issue related to Mozilla being able to open the PDF. To repeat, though, I do not seem to have any problems in general opening PDF with the current build of Firefox Browser I'm using.

Also note, I am not running a full Mozilla installation; I am only using the Firefox Browswer components of Mozilla. I'm running this on an XP platform, but also note here, I am WAYYYYYYYYYY behind on the downloading of Microsoft "security patches". As a test, I stopped this (what to me has become a largely nonsensical process) close to two years ago. The only drawbacks I've incurred since is that frequently there are web pages I cannot browse because they've been modernized in some way for which my IE and or OS has not been "patched" to accommodate, and this is an annoyance that I welcome given the benefits it came with - no constant bleepin never ending "download this", "fix that", "ooh, big security warning here, better get the latest fix" saga. :)
