In reading the above posts here are my thoughts about your situation.

1. First of all, I'm so sorry that you are going through this and have lost considerable money. After reading your post, I don't think any of us will use that lab -- so they loose big time!

2. The lab may not be an alternative lab. Judging by their response to you and only going through a practitioner, I suspect that they are a government run operation, posing as an alternative lab. It happens.

3. You can still get the your lab results because they are in your file! Please write her back a professional letter, letting her know that you need your medical records. You will mostly likely need to pay her a "fee" which can amount to $25-50 for copying costs and postage. You have the rights to obtain any medical records -- offices do it all the time. If she refuses (which would be dumb), get another practitioner who is willing to work with you. They can write a letter to her and ask for the records.

4. Unfortunately, the practitioner that you're dealing with is a bit greedy. I suspect that this person is unable to maintain a practice because she has poor people skills. She is far better doing her work by phone. However, the phone consultation fee is subject to interpretation of professional medical fees.

5. In the future, whenever you have any lab work done, politely insist on a copy sent to you. I have done this for a number of years. I always tell them that in the future something may come up, or I may move, and like to keep your medical records. I've never had anyone refuse my requests, when I let them know upfront. In fact, the superb doctors that I know will do a phone consultation and follow it up with a letter of interpretation, including the lab results!
