Re: Copper IUD, cervical cap, other methods
Diane, my perspective on Birth Control. I have tried just about EVERYTHING for bc. Pills, unfortunately make me fat(ter), the hormones just don't agree with me, not disciplined enough to do the diaphragm, condoms make me itch and my MD refused to tie my tubs. Finally, after my last kid I was introduced to the copper IUD (paragard). Initially, I was reluctant to try it because my mom told me all of the stories about how it effected some women in the 60's and 70's. Well, I finally tried and I have had it for almost 2 years now. I totally love it! I do not see it, do not feel do not smell it, and it has no hormones! . Personally (and I am sure some of the naturalist here would disagree) next to sterilization I think it is the greatest form of bc. As for the heavier periods-mine haven't changed, and I haven't had any side effects that I can pinpoint. I have no sex drive whatsoever - but I never have had one before, and after reading about that being a possible side affect with Mirena (which release hormones0, I realized that has hormones that would kill the sex drive.
Anyway it works for me, I believe the effects might simply be relative to the female using the product. Again, it works for me and I am a lady who gets pregnant every time my husband THINKS he wants to be intimate.
Good Luck!
