Re: Hope for Curing Eczema? (new to board)
Hello,
I completely understand your frustration and it is the reason I joined the excema message boards in the first place. We have experienced healing in my nieces (who suffered with the excema as infants) for 4 years now. It wasn't until I had an episode of a poison ivy breakout, that I remembered the suffering experienced by excema sufferers. Because we have experienced healing for so long, I had forgotten the pain and decided that it was my duty to tell others about the healing that we found.
Eucerin was what the doctor prescribed for my nieces excema breakout and it just irritated the skin more. We stopped using the Eucerin and used the Burt's Bees Baby Bee Buttermilk Lotion ALONE as a moisturizer. It is not a heavy cream; therefore it is providing the moisture that the skin craves without clogging the pores. The skin is able to absorb the moisture, retain the moisture and still breathe; as opposed to heavy creams that sit on the skin, clog the pores, and disrupt the oxygen flow. Your baby's skin needs moisture and the natural lotion is safe to apply as often as needed; however not in conjunction with the Eucerin. We totally eliminated that lotion from the moisturizing regime and the healing began immediately. My niece was covered with excema and in 2 weeks there was not even a trace (no scarring) of excema on her skin.
Feel free to post me another message if this didn't answer your questions sufficiently. It is the suffering of babies that prompted me to join the excema message boards in the first place. I sincerely want to help direct your family on a quick, immediate road towards healing. In two weeks my second niece's severe excema breakout was completely healed. She is now 2 years old, still excema free, and we still use the lotion as a daily moisturizer for her skin. If you've noticed from the beginning of this message to you, I mentioned that we have experienced 4 years of healing from excema. My oldest niece is 4 years old and we first saw the evidence of the effectiveness of the Burt's Bees lotion on her skin. However, despite that healing, when my second niece was born to my brother and his wife, they reverted back to doctor prescribed medications and the second niece suffered the most severe excema breakout. Like your husband, they were skeptical of the lotion (even though they witnessed the healing) because a doctor didn't prescribe it. After the horror that my niece went through, they don't question us anymore and are now the biggest advocates of the lotion to other suffering children they encounter.
The only way that you would have unsuccessful results with the lotion is if your child is allergic to ingredients in the lotion. I hope that this is not the case for you; but should it be, I will look for and research another non-steroid lotion as an alternative.
There is more to the successful treatment of excema than just the moisturizer and I am glad to hear that your child likes water. Your child is actually craving what her skin is thirsting and water is a major player in the road towards her healing. Our nieces craved vegetables (also integral in the healing process), because their mother is not a big vegetable eater and their bodies were lacking the nourishment that the vegetables provide. My nieces already understand the importance of vegetables and water to their diet and are constantly complimented on their beautiful skin. The awesome part about this whole healing process is that you are going to witness that your daughter doesn't have bad skin, it's just that something bad has happened to her skin. Her healing is definitely going to come from your persistence and your fight. I have total faith in your abilities as a compassionate parent.
