Re: Is This Islam?
Thank you for understanding and not being offended. For a moment there, I was concerned. *grin*
It was hearing the story of the crusades as a young teen that closed the door on Christianity for good, as far as I'm concerned. The idea that Christians would kill Muslims for a freekin' piece of dirt in the name of Jesus was too much to bear.
But just as a point of debate I've heard in stories that I cannot prove that Muslims have, in fact, destroyed Christian churches. For example,
this history of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher notes that in 1009 AD, an Egyptian caliph conquered Jerusalem and destroyed that Church.
On to covering.
Well, if it's about respect... Why cannot a woman respect herself without being covered? I mean, if the woman
wants to be completely covered, I certainly don't mean to suggest she shouldn't be allowed, but I just don't see what covering up has to do with respect. Accepting another's choice to dress the way that she sees fit seems to be the proper demonstration of respect to me, whether it's fully covered or not.
In any case, to the extent we're talking about neo-Inquisitions and the Islamic equivalent of televangelists versus the truth of what's in Islam, I think I can relax a bit now. *grin* Thanks for your reply.
