Re: Isn't Sushi a great way to get new parasites?

I've heard it's the best way to get new parasites, at least for those of us not drinking out of stream on a regular basis.

I have a few stories about that.

My old boyfriend is a freelance photographer, and he landed an assignment for National Geographic taking pictures of some of the nation's top doctors and researchers, including a noted microbiologist. The doctor had a row of microscopes on a table. He told my ex to look through them, each contained samples of intestinal parasites people received from eating sushi. My ex said the doc claimed that fish are the most parasitic animals on earth. This was about 10 years ago, long before I had even tried sushi, but I never forgot the story.

Second story, and more recent (in the last few months) comes from my aunt in Northern California. The entire family, including my three adult cousins, all had intestinal worms. The doctor claimed it was from the sushi, which they ate all the time. One cousin had a different kind of worm than the rest of the family, but it too was supposedly from sushi. I can't remember the name of the worms, something like giardi. My aunt gave up sushi. I still eat it but maybe I shouldn't.

I'm doing a parasite cleanse after this fast so we'll see. My aunt is really bugging me to get tested for those worms. I'll probably go do that soon. It'll be a bummer if I have them since I love sushi soooo much.
