Re: Gum Disease/Periodontal
Gum disease absolutely is depressing, I agree. I had severe gum disease, to the point that when I finally went to a good dentist, I had to have my back teeth pulled (gingivitus/gum disease had gotten so far into the roots that they had decayed beyond repair), and also my four front bottom teeth. It was awful. The problem was so severe that I'd lost actual bone in my jaws and could not support implants with any certainty. So, I have a bridge across the front bottom, looks fine, and a year and a half ago, after trying so many methods to combat gum bleeding, swelling, etc., I stopped using toothpaste because in my desperation searching for alternatives, I discovered flouride in toothpast actually disconnects gum tissue tethers from the teeth and opens gaps that then fill with food debris, etc., and switched to plain white bar soap using a soft toothbrush, along with water pik and gentle flossing. I still have to keep up on it, but I haven't had serious gum bleeding for over a year. I also do a baking soda scrub gently every few days and pour vitamin a/d from a punctured capsule over my teeth and let it run over my gums and massage it in with my fingertips, and use flossing and a small bottle-brush type of instrument to massage and clean inbetween the teeth. I used to drink coke like crazy and eat lots of bad things. I've stopped for the most part and really taken up vitamins and salads and using cold-pressed virgin olive oil, etc. I worry still, as I don't want to lose any more teeth, but it seems stable for the most part now, but I cannot let it go.
