Re: Why is my hair so dry and brittle?
Hi Shelley
I have worked in many salons that have chemical products and have never been satisfied with the result apart from breathing in all those chemicals all my life.(I am thinking about getting tested to see if there are any residues from all those chemicals I have been in, could be interesting) I just love cutting but yes I have had clients that love colour too and I use organic colour for results that are just like chemical but better as it lasts longer as the hair is much more healthier due to it not been dehydrated and the elasticity is better.
Check out your health stores as they have great organic products now....not like henna where you only went orange after a while.
Preference is a demi permanent has it gives you a demarcation line too....it just doesnt lighten the hair more than 2 shades.
It adds colour but it still can go darker and darker everytime you put it on...especially if you are applying it every 6 weeks etc. If you are putting it on all over every application then you will be weakening the cuticle even more...this makes you think you have to put it on again and sooner because it fades quicker everytime you put an application on...due to losing its porosity..it is still a chemical and it will have this effect no matter what you do.(Rosemary is a good rinse and brings out natural red in the hair....Try and do twice a week and only do the roots of the hair with the chemical colour( I know you want to hide those lighter pigments. You can even use a natural colour stick....its like a crayon on the areas that are lighter...especially if you are only 40% lighter...put it around the hairline or places that you only see it..like parting etc.
Always feed it with proteins....the receipe you mentioned is excellent add tea tree oil too......I had a client who came from India...she was visiting NZ and she had a receipe that she was going to give to me that her family has used for centuries and it stopped greying.
I noticed she didnt have one grey hair in her head...she was in her 70s her skin was amazing.....I am going to contact her family and see if I can get the receipe...
Zinc deficiency is definitely a precusor in colour and brittleness of the hair and yes thyroid
Years ago I had a little boy come to me for a haircut...he was about 3...I was so amazed when he came in...he had white hair and it stood up on end....even if I put water on it...it wouldnt lie flat...it didnt seem to absorb anything...His mother was curious and so was I, so we set out doing some tests....He was Zinc deficient and his body would not absorb it. So there you go....ZinC Zinc Zinc and calcium and manganesium.
I do hate recommending chemical colours but since I do have some clients that like it...I always recommend Redken (Loreal has bought out Redken in NZ) they have always been very well laboratory tested and I would only recommend this as a chemical colour. Great selection too.
