Re: Atkins diet - which one dead or alive... AND -

This is typical of the way health discussions go! Not to worry, our guts' instincts may lead aware people to their best diet.

For one thing, we see these discussions quickly drown in distractions. I don't mean to pick on the careful spellers here, but that is just not the issue, it is unimportant here. Elsewhere it might be I suppose, and then cyriluis would spell check...NUFF Said.

There are so many things to discuss. AHs anyone else noticed that the Atkins "recomended" foods changed after he died? The Atkins "corp" sold out to a food processor I think, because Dr.Atkins never had any packaged foods, processed foods, ect that we saw lining the shelves after he died and the diet was givin so much more exposure!!
Pick up an old text Dr.Atkins wrote, from back in the early 1990s or earlier, and see the differences. There were several good internet links but they are now"not available".

So, to the meat of the matter -
I would say that the original message was primarily that high carbs are the culprit in modern diets. They turn to sugars almost as fast as Sugar does in our body!!
That is only the tip of the modern malady diet - processed foods are out too of course.
Whole Foods are in. Here is where the old and the new diets differ - fruits are okay with Atkins original diet. Whole fruits without pesticides of course. As much as you like, I think. You won't get fat eating fruits.

With meat, ATkins was right, I believe, that cholesterol and saturated fats are not the cause of heart disease and artey clogging, that process is soimething like the acids or pathogens causing vessel leakage, and cholesterol is what plugs the leaks, it repairs blood vessels. It may clog up eventually if you fail to correct the conditions creating holes in our ateries.
How about that!!!

And as for weight loiss - not the first priority of original Atkins - he found that eating hi carb foods triggered the fat storage mechanisms in our bodies, and we would not get fat, and would burn that excess fat, when we eat high protien diets and whole foods like fruits.
There is a threshold of carbohydrate intake and its "sugars", and in fruits it is not high enough to trigger the fat storage mechanism.
Carbohydrate foods like grains potatoes corn soy and so on are all over that threshold. They could be called "starvation foods", when years of poor crops might threaten our ability to feed ourselves, and so these crops would be grown to get us thru those years. poor crop years are not a reality now, we can get crops off every year. That may change and we may need to consume carbs to survive at some point. But now, we consume carbs because they were pushed on us and promoted by the people who wstood to make lots more money off of them thatn from a high protien diet, thats how I see it.

okay, you are bored with me now, more later, lets keep the ball rolling , focused on whats important.
Cyrilius, and others sure, I hope to see a response - do you agree with any of this?

Karlin

Ps - the iconic Dr.Schultze is not the final word. All experts have to realise that their schooling must be unlearned, and I fear that he has bought into some data that the food processors espouse. All of us are subhject to the manipulation and brainwashing of industry.
