Re: James 1:26
But what is the difference between someone else's site and their answers being "doctrines of demons" vs. me giving the same answers as them since I agree with them? My answers are still going to be "doctrines of demons" in your eyes so what is the point?
But what the heck, I'll play along just for a little while, until I decide I don't want to anymore.
I never said Jesus made a new religion. His plan of redemption has always been the same since before the foundation of the world. There's a lot more I could say about that but again it would involve a lot of writing that I don't have time for. But to say I said Jesus made a new religion is not correct at all.
Sjaak: the sacrificial lamb in the old testament was replaced with jesus he became the lamb god now provided for us , he replaces and updates this means fullfil".
Me: I don't like that word "replaced" there because I think that very much misrepresents what actually happened. The animal sacrifices never did actually take away sins. I see it as the animal sacrifices were the type and Jesus is the antitype, but the animal sacrifices only pointed to the real deal, but they were never the real deal.
And I didn't say the Old Covenant was "destroyed" but it was made "obsolete". There is a difference. And the bible itself says the Old Covenant was made obsolete:
(sorry about caps in this passage, I didn't do that)
Hebrews 8:
6But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.
7For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion sought for a second.
8For finding fault with them, He says,
“BEHOLD, DAYS ARE COMING, SAYS THE LORD,
WHEN I WILL EFFECT A NEW COVENANT
WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AND WITH THE HOUSE OF JUDAH;
9NOT LIKE THE COVENANT WHICH I MADE WITH THEIR FATHERS
ON THE DAY WHEN I TOOK THEM BY THE HAND
TO LEAD THEM OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT;
FOR THEY DID NOT CONTINUE IN MY COVENANT,
AND I DID NOT CARE FOR THEM, SAYS THE LORD.
10“FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL
AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD:
I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MINDS,
AND I WILL WRITE THEM ON THEIR HEARTS.
AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD,
AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.
11“AND THEY SHALL NOT TEACH EVERYONE HIS FELLOW CITIZEN,
AND EVERYONE HIS BROTHER, SAYING, ‘KNOW THE LORD,’
FOR ALL WILL KNOW ME,
FROM THE LEAST TO THE GREATEST OF THEM.
12“FOR I WILL BE MERCIFUL TO THEIR INIQUITIES,
AND I WILL REMEMBER THEIR SINS NO MORE.”
13When He said, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear.
Sjaak: Did heaven and earth pass when i was not looking? the sabbath is gods holy day the seventh day. Even before adam and eve needed jesus, this was the day the lord made holy , did he unholy it? was it suddenly not his day of rest ? if so show me in scripture.
Me: Are your referring to this scripture?:
Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Jesus did fulfill the law, in every way! And he got it done before heaven and earth passed away. He rocks! :) What do you think he meant by "It is finished" while dying on the cross?
Have you ever noticed in the Genesis account of the seven day creation that on the seventh day, it doesn't say "And the evening and the morning were the seventh day", like it said for all of the other six days? Couldn't that be something significant, signifying perhaps an eternal rest instead of it being about a day?
Again, I see the law in the Old Covenant as type vs. the New Covenant antitype. The seventh day Sabbath was the type. Christ as our eternal sabbath rest is the antitype.
Hebrews 4 says:
4For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: “AND GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS”; 5and again in this passage, “THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST.” 6Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience,
The seventh day he is referring to there is of course from the Genesis account where the Seventh day, the day God rested from his work, does not end with "evening and morning" as all the other days did.
So what is this REST that the disobedient will not enter? Is that a day? Or is that eternal life with God?
And where do we see anyone prior to the Law being given, being told to keep the seventh day Sabbath?
I think Sabbath day keepers miss the deeper meaning that the seventh day Sabbath law was meant to teach.
Back when the church I was in growing up was going through a major church split over this very issue as well as others, everyone was confused and trying to make sense of what all was happening and trying to grab onto hope in anyway they could and one of my dad's good friends came up to him and said this, "We are going to be okay as long as we have the Sabbath!" And I can see my dad now, with this look I know all to well, saying "No, we are going to be okay as long as we have Christ!" And I think that sums it up well. Don't try to be saved by the keeping of the Sabbath. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved! Everything else will fall into place. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure (Phil. 2:13).
Col. 2:16
6Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day— 17things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.
I'll take Christ over the mere shadow, how bout you? Rest in Him everyday, not just one day a week! Do you really know what the requirements for Sabbath keeping in the Old Covenant were anyway? And do you really do those things? Be honest now! :)
