Infected hair follicles are indeed a problem for Morgies. But for the unfortunate souls experiencing full-blown Morgellons Syndrome, this symptom is just the tip of the iceberg. Your post understates the severity of this systemic condition.

Since these infected follicles are easy to observe with just the naked eye, researchers should be analyzing them much more than they do now. By "analyze", I mean identify the clear/white gel that coats these hair follicles, the black substance that eventually replaces the root of the follicle, and experiment with inducing the independent movement from infected hairs.
