External reasons are much easier to overcome when fasting compared to internal ones. It would be easier to be around food after 1 or 2 days of fasting.
Is it possible for you to excuse yourself for day one from cooking helping your mom and then see how you feel being around food?
Also drink water everytime you are around food. If your stomach feels full you wont be attracted to food.
It is awesome that you help your mom with cooking.
