Yes, it seems very similar to how my condition started and right around the same time of year, although I had several other factors which may have contributed like physical trauma, stress, smoking and a generally unhealthy lifestyle. I don't know if anyone here can tell you step by step how to nip it in the bud (that's why we're all here -- for a chronic condition), but see my previous post of advice to new folks.

Many of us have theorized that the ongoing trauma of peeling off the skin led to the chronic condition, so I would say, as a test, try not to peel anything off, and try to find a moisturizer that penetrates and doesn't exacerbate -- I've found olive, coconut, hempseed and avocado oils to be very soothing and penetrative, though the benefit is short-lived to be sure and they are not cures to the chronic version of this condition. I believe that petrolatum based products made my condition worse but I can't prove that. Glad you were suspicious of your balms, but let us know what your new moisturizer is and its ingredients if you can and maybe we can offer more advice.
