Re: Question for TEI Individuals

If your blood levels of D were very low i assume then you had low calcium levels? Have you any bone density issues?

Boosting with D instead of calcium would be best as the D is needed for calcium absorption.
That would be a more likely reason for low calcium than hypoparathyroidism.
Supplementing with D and calcium would be useful in a severe deficient state until balance has been found. In your case being low D, if that level was like that for years then you can assume you might have had also very low calcium for years so supplementing in that case could be useful - to ensure parathyroids don't go overboard on robbing it from your bones!
Perhaps by ensuring we have adequate Vitamin D levels, we can then prevent the parathyroids from going hyper or hypo?
I didn't know about the K2 while on D3..shall have to look into that..thanks for the info.

Sorry, i'm clueless regarding salt and calcium relationship.

Regarding hair testing - blood levels for calcium give a much better picture of the real level of calcium - and unlike other blood values which change so drastically from one blood draw to another...calcium should stay within a very narrow range and be consistent (thanks to the parathyroids). So in terms of NB and hair testing of calcium , i personally don't agree with suggesting to anyone to supplement calcium based on hair analysis. If anything vitamin D should be suggested for low hair values!
