Re: Crusted Swollen Lip

I want to reiterate that when I used Neosporin on my lips (from when I thought of this condition as an open wound) a while ago it made a pretty big difference. Why I stopped using it? Neosporin's main ingredients are in a petroleum jelly base.

I honestly don't think that I have an allergic reaction to petrolatum as I occasionally used petrolatum based lip balms before I had EC with good results. I just think that it isn't a compound that should be used when someone has a condition like EC.

I think that EC is caused by some type of yeast imbalance in the mouth. I say this because one of my biopsies came back showing excessive yeast. I feel that when enough yeast bacteria is introduced under the protective layer of the lips it just manifests and grows at an uncontrollable rate. It then over populates the other bacterias that keep it in check because yeast needs to be present in a healthy mouth. Maybe the injections help to restore that bacterial balance, therefore eliminating the condition as a result. Maybe the yeast doesn't have to get under the skin at all. Some people claim to have gotten EC while on medications so, maybe it can be said that EC is an overpopulation of yeast (or other bacteria) in the mouth.

Some of my theories:

Why don't topical anti-fungal creams work? They don't get deep enough within the skin of the lips.

Why don't anti-fungal pills work? Their overall effective strength diminishes by the time they reach the lips. And this is IF they reach the lips at all given if EC reduces adequate blood flow to the lips.

Sorry for the random posts but, I just can't stand the feeling of my lips not being normal. I hate it when they're crusty, raw, or slimy and I really don't want to take this condition to my grave. I at least want to see & feel my lips as completely normal again before then.
