Re: Crusted Swollen Lip

Hey JK216,

I had two biopsies done before. I had one when my EC was really, REALLY bad and it came back showing nothing. The second one showed excessive yeast. I honestly don't want to do another biopsy because to be honest with you, two painful scars on my lower lip from the previous biopsies is good enough for me.

I feel that longterm is really on to something in regards to the minor salivary glands being infected.

I made an appointment with a dermatologist for this Wednesday. I am going to show him the article that longterm posted. I'm also bringing with me an extensive list of all the garbage medications and creams I've been prescribed by other doctors over the course of me having EC for 18 years that did not do anything but embarrass me. I hope the dermatologist really hears me out and considers the information I'm going to bring him as doctors don't seem to like it when patients know more about a condition than they do. Worst case scenario would be for me to take a medical leave from my job & book a flight to El Salvador for a month to seek treatment at the hospital where the article longterm posted was published. Yes, I'm THAT desperate to get totally rid of this.

I honestly don't know why I decided to start letting skin overgrow on my lips again. I was doing okay with me just shedding whatever growth of skin was on my lips in the morning. But, I'm just tired of feeling phony and abnormal. My lips feel really sticky when they're raw and I hate the feeling.

I also notice the healthy grooves and skin pigment of the lips of other people and I really want to have that back. I just really want to look & feel normal again.

I will keep everyone posted on how my visit to the dermatologist goes. I truly hope that he doesn't prescribe some silly ointment for me again as I am convinced that no topical solution will work if it can't get beneath the surface of the lips.

I have to admit that I am seeing a difference with the mixture of jojoba oil & liquid Calendula I am using. Normal looking skin seems to be growing back at the very top of the upper lip and the base of the lower lip but, this new skin still gets white when exposed to water. It does appear to be a bit more resistant to whitening when exposed to water but, it still gets white after long periods of exposure. The mixture also exposes little white spots that resemble Fordyce's spots on my upper lip that I can't see when I don't have the mixture on them. Something is definitely going on someplace under the surface of the skin.

I will keep everyone posted. My EC has been so bad that I believe in the fact that if I get cured, everyone else that has EC will be cured also. I know that is a very bold statement to make but, I have had every single symptom of EC including a slight odor of decay under my nose. My EC has improved somewhat since then but, I'd say that it can still be classified as a severe case of EC.
