Re: 146 Reasons Why Sugar is Ruining Your Health

Sugar is a drug like alcohol or other recreational drugs. I am a recovering drug addict and alcoholic. I have been clean and sober for almost 12 years.

Your body will react to a reduction of any drug. When people reduce their caffeine intake, benzo's, Sugar or psyc meds they go through a withdrawal reaction. They may experience fatigue, stomach upset, shakiness, anxiety, insomnia, headaches, flu-like symptoms. I think the morning nausea is the body's way of signaling to you that it is toxic and trying to detoxify itself.

As you transition to a lower carb diet you will most likely experience what is known as a carb flu. This usually happens when people drop below the 100grms per day of carb. When I really cut my carbs I went through this. Sugar is very high in carbs. I am not suggesting you go very low carb. All I am saying is that when you eliminate Sugar which is very high in carbs you will probably go through some withdrawal.

I don't think you will suffer for 21 days of sugar withdrawal. I think the physical aspect clears in 3-5 days. However the emotional withdrawal might take some time if you have been happily eating your waffles for the last 10 years. I know that my relationship with food has changed while eating a clean diet. Just like acute alcohol withdrawal only lasts for 5 days but the psychological stuff is a lifetime work.

I eat for nourishment and not so much for pleasure. Eat to live not live to eat. Eat foods that heal and not foods that kill . Just try and find a breakfast alternative that is satisfying and nutritious.

I also started eating my last meal at 5pm. This gives me the whole evening to digest my food. Night time rest is when the body does it's repair work. it can only do one function at a time. If it is busy digesting while you are sleeping then you are missing out on repair time. I was told the best repair time is between 10pm and 2am.

Hope you have a good one!
