Re: Balanced view from ex-Catholic priest

One more thing. I never, ever see any catholics on this forum. Because I have a history with that belief system and it's ways, this makes sense to me. So what I observe here is a fundamentalist forum, rather than a christian forum.

Catholics do not have a need to proselytize or convert or condemn or defend. Even the church itself, since the "good" pope john 23rd (there were many, many bad ones) conducted the ecumenical council Vatican II, the church proclaimed that there were many paths to "salvation." They stopped feeling that they were the "elite" ones with all the truth and became open to dialogue with all faiths. It was a refreshing time of change. Unfortunately after his death, the PTB continued with their agenda. However, the people (not the hierarchy) maintained the good changes and openness. So much so, that many priests and nuns left their commitment to their vows. LOL, the good priests left, and the bad ones are still there causing problems (pedophelia, etc)

Anyway, I had many nun friends who were missionaries. They went to India, Indonesia, Haiti, Mexico, etc to care for the people. They never tried to convert, but only gave the people information if asked for.
