Re: Is xylitol a poison?

Personally I don't like splenda because of the chlorine, we don't need any more halogens. Also because it has little calorific value but can cause problems with blood Sugar levels, the same as other artificial sweetners.

For people with hypoglcaemia or diabetes, xylitol or stevia is a better choice, because there is little insulin reaction to it, and the BSL remains stable.

Sweet foods and drinks have become epidemic in western countries, and IMHO we would be better to train ourselves and our children, not to consume so many sweet foods and drinks, instead of just substituting Sugar for other sweeteners. My own daughters favorite snack, when she was little, was kelp chips or raw carrots and nuts. For myself, growing up in Asia, where sweet food is rarely eaten, I didn't develop a taste for it, and still don't like sweet food to this day. It is doable :)
