This was recently posted with a lot of incorrect information.
Xylitol is a sugar alcohol which is a "wood" sugar!
Do we see people going around eating trees?
Xylitol is found in many other sources than trees:
http://www.3dchem.com/moremolecules.asp?ID=306&othername=wood%20sugar
"Xylitol is a naturally occurring sweetener found in the fibers of many fruits and vegetables, including various berries, corn husks, oats, and mushrooms. It can be extracted from corn fiber, birch, raspberries, plums, and corn."
So I guess the real question is do we see people going around eating berries, corn, oats, mushrooms and various fruits? Oh, I guess we do.
It has the potential to cause bloating , gas, and diarrhea in humans!
Hmmm..... Same symptoms that ingesting calcium hydroxide can cause.
Now, "IF" it may cause diarrhea in people then this may mean that it may cause
the persons body to become too Acidic!
So does calcium hydroxide also mean the person's body is too acidic since it also causes diarrhea? Or what about magnesium hydroxide since it is also laxative?
Now, if the persons body may become too Acidic so as to cause diarrhea, then
this may mean that it also may "STEAL" Oxygen from the body!
Diarrhea does not steal oxygen from the body. And some acids, such as malic acid help to oxygenate cells and to manufacture cellular energy. So I see no proof of a connection to the above claim.
Now, what happens when we run out of Oxygen?
How long can we live without Oxygen?
And what is causing this supposed loss of oxygen, and where is the evidence to this?
We would probably be better to use the White sugar, rather than to eat Xylitol,
which is a wood alcohol sugar!
What if someone is diabetic? Xylitol is considered diabetic safe as where white sugar is not. But as with anything good too much of a good thing can cause problems. Basic common sense.
Xylitol is also a great antibacterial, which is one of the reasons it is used in some sugar free gums.
Check on a bottle of wood alcohol and see the warning lables about not ingesting
it into our body, for it may "KILL" us, and then decide "IF" we want to
continue to use Xylitol!
Wood alcohol (methanol) has NOTHING to do with xylitol. They are competely different chemicals. See:
Methanol CH3OH
Xylitol C5H12O5
Saying that they are the same thing is like saying a ball is the same thing as an airplane. Methanol is very toxic, there is no question about that. It can cause various neurolgical damage including blindness. But xylitol, which IS NOT the same thing does not have these side effects.
OY he is such a pompous snot!!
Slap him silly, tis your choice!!!
ROTFLMAO!!!!
Sounds like you are feeling better MamacatPatch.
Sucralose (Splenda) is a sugar alcohol. Is it also safe?
http://www.chemistrydaily.com/chemistry/Sucralose
Sucralose is a potent non-caloric sweetener, also known by the trade name Splenda. It is 500–700 times sweeter than sucrose, making it roughly twice as sweet as saccharin. It is manufactured by the selective chlorination of sucrose, by which three of sucrose's hydroxyl groups are substituted with chlorine atoms to produce 1,6-dichloro-1,6-dioxy-β-D-fructo-furanosyl 4-chloro-4-deoxy-α-D-galactopyranoside. Unlike aspartame, it is stable under heat and over a broad range of pH conditions, and can be used in baking, or in products that require a long shelf life.
Sucralose (Splenda) is a sugar alcohol. Is it also safe?
Sucralose is not a sugar alcohol. It is made by taking sucrose and replacing three of the hydrogen atoms in the sugar molecule with 3 chlorine atoms. It is more stable than the poison aspartame, but it is still not safe. Here is some reading on the side effects:

I'll stick to my stevia.
Thanks to all. Enjoyed the learning on this. I NEVER eat sucralose (Splenda). I got into a discussion wih a Splenda lover who claimed that Splenda was natural because it is made from sugar...a sugar alcohol but I didn't know enough about the chemistry of it or chemistry in general to discuss it. Now I do. These sites and explanations are helpful.
I got into a discussion wih a Splenda lover who claimed that Splenda was natural because it is made from sugar.
That is like saying plastic is natural because it is made from oil, which is natural.
Let's not forget the amazing benefits of dental health with Xylitol.
They did a study of school-age children in England. They found that Xylitol lowered dental carries by a huge percentage. That study is easily googlable.....
I use Xylitol toothpaste.
I think that between the oil pulling, silica, and this toothpaste, my teeth have never been better.

Yes, xylitol is antibacterial. So it helps to kill the bacteria that leads to tooth decay and peridontal disease. And chewing gum helps promote saliva that helps wash away the bacteria and the acids they form.
Stevia based gums have the same property for those sensitive to xylitol.
Yes. People do go around eating trees. Not counting fruit trees or those who produce berries (juniper) and nuts.
Gen. George Washington saved his Valley Forge troops from starvation when he got them to chew on fir bark.
The Pacific yew tree helps to fight ovarian cancer; and probably other forms of cancer.
The maritime pine tree (France) is one source of pycnogenol.
Then there is the delicious maple syrup.
The native Americans used tree resin (pitch) for numerous health benefits.
We love trees.
Yes, they do so much for the environement. Even the bees that produce the honey Moreless likes collect propolis from trees to keep their hives sterile. I think Moreless just has a tree phobia thinking they are the Devil's workers of intiquity.
