Is xylitol a poison?
This was recently posted with a lot of incorrect information.
Xylitol is a sugar alcohol which is a "wood" sugar!
Do we see people going around eating trees?
Xylitol is found in many other sources than trees:

"Xylitol is a naturally occurring sweetener found in the fibers of many fruits and vegetables, including various berries, corn husks, oats, and mushrooms. It can be extracted from corn fiber, birch, raspberries, plums, and corn."
So I guess the real question is do we see people going around eating berries, corn, oats, mushrooms and various fruits? Oh, I guess we do.
It has the potential to cause bloating , gas, and diarrhea in humans!
Hmmm..... Same symptoms that ingesting calcium hydroxide can cause.
Now, "IF" it may cause diarrhea in people then this may mean that it may cause
the persons body to become too Acidic!
So does calcium hydroxide also mean the person's body is too acidic since it also causes diarrhea? Or what about magnesium hydroxide since it is also laxative?
Now, if the persons body may become too Acidic so as to cause diarrhea, then
this may mean that it also may "STEAL" Oxygen from the body!
Diarrhea does not steal oxygen from the body. And some acids, such as malic acid help to oxygenate cells and to manufacture cellular energy. So I see no proof of a connection to the above claim.
Now, what happens when we run out of Oxygen?
How long can we live without Oxygen?
And what is causing this supposed loss of oxygen, and where is the evidence to this?
We would probably be better to use the White sugar, rather than to eat Xylitol,
which is a wood alcohol sugar!
What if someone is diabetic? Xylitol is considered diabetic safe as where white sugar is not. But as with anything good too much of a good thing can cause problems. Basic common sense.
Xylitol is also a great antibacterial, which is one of the reasons it is used in some sugar free gums.
Check on a bottle of wood alcohol and see the warning lables about not ingesting
it into our body, for it may "KILL" us, and then decide "IF" we want to
continue to use Xylitol!
Wood alcohol (methanol) has NOTHING to do with xylitol. They are competely different chemicals. See:
Methanol CH3OH
Xylitol C5H12O5
Saying that they are the same thing is like saying a ball is the same thing as an airplane. Methanol is very toxic, there is no question about that. It can cause various neurolgical damage including blindness. But xylitol, which IS NOT the same thing does not have these side effects.
