Re: I disagree
People should do their homework thoroughly before injesting anything. Think of all the approved vaccines and drugs THAT would eliminate!
No doubt people can do more harm than good if they do not supplement wisely and/or end up with some expensive colored urine (especially when choosing synthetics and rock minerals) - however, the track record of harm from supplements versus medications is tremendous. As in nature, for the most part the body will take what is bioavailable and needed and pass on the rest. Nature is certainly the preferred source but a natural diet often results in excess vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. The body generally handles that well. Even more often in today's world the body ends up with deficiencies - which nature handles for the most part short term, but long term is another story.
No doubt nutrition from a natural diet is better utilized, but RDA is pretty much a joke. Look at vitamin C, D3 and iodine for example. The RDA for vitamin C is the minimum amount needed to prevent scurvy! We should all be looking at optimum daily amounts - and it would be nice to have that differentiated between natural and supplemental forms.
