as it should be...

there are strains of bifidobacteria, lactobicilli, eubacteria that survive and thrive in both environments... same as fungus... for the most part we are overly anaerobic due to SAD (thus your number of 99% where ever that came from, and the misunderstanding), compared to yesteryear where little or no data is available.
It is important to keep in mind that while the gut flora or fungus may survive either condition, being able to flourish is another matter. As ML states... dependent upon condition, one or the other will flourish... maintaining a stable, ideal terrain will promote well being and harmony\balance if you will.
Whether anaerobic or aerobic, fungus tends to like acidic conditions whereas most bacteria prefers a neutral pH.
Which brings me to pleomorphism... do you think that these cells adapt and morph to deal with ever changing conditions?
I do... they have to.
Think about how often our foods or meals can vary in nutritive content and pH...
