Re: how will tea affect my water fast? (edit2)

SF,
although this thread turned into a debate it was not my original intention to create what you refer to as an "argument" but more in the way of a "discussion" re' the comments that you had made re' long-term fasts; these comments were contrary to those who have a wealth of experience in their supervision, and the reason I felt compelled to reply to you in the support forum.

I was sorry to learn of your own fasting experience which did not allow you to extend your fasting beyond the one week mark, but this is by no means a typical experience with the fast from people both past & present.

I would also agree with you SF that magnesium deficiency (as with many other macro and trace minerals) is endemic on a Global scale, and results mostly from soil-depletion over the last few decades, but it can also be the result of malabsorption problems within the digestive tract and where it would require at least a medium to long-term fast in correcting the powers of digestion and assimilation of the body.

From what you have said in your last message it sounds to me that although you were following a varied diet pre-fast, your magnesium deficiency would most likely be caused by a malabsorption problem: one way of knowing this is if you are able to gain weight quite easily, or if you are unable to do so.
For those of us such as Mouseclick, who can gain weight quite easily, then the powers of digestion are efficient, but if you are unable to do so (regardless of what and how much you consume) then your digestive and assimilative powers are most likely the root cause.
The only way to improve upon this is by undertaking a medium to long-term fast, which Hygienists discovered was the only way of doing so. This was also my own experience in that until my first prolonged fast at the age of 24 I remained thin and emaciated regardless of my diet, but following this period of abstinence I was able to gain weight quite easily and achieve a normal to above normal BMI.

It is also unfortunate that you were unable to conduct your fast under ideal conditions and had to continue with your working schedule, and where this probably exacerbated the issue.

Regards

Chrisb1.
