Re: Leaky Gut and Hypothyroid: Which Probiotics and Digestive Enzymes?
Gee... I thought probiotics supposed to heal LGS!
I tried Dr. Ohhira 12+ along with mega doses of other supplements and a restricted diet for 3 mths as recommended by a ND. My health went down the drain. I couldn't digest anything, became constipated, became hypothyroid, got very heavy and clotty periods and became anemic.
I didn't take any supps and juiced carrot (8oz/day) mixed with other veggies for a year. My skin turned yellow. As I later found out that hypothyroid patients have trouble converting beta carotene to Vitamin A, the excess beta-carotene is eliminated thru the skin if the bowel can't eliminate the excess quick enough which is typical of hypo patients. The heavy period also stopped as soon as I stopped the supps. In fact, the flow has gotten even lighter prior to the supplement assault (I'm not sure if that's a good thing though). I still get clots from time to time. I've also been eating/juicing beets on and off for months. I eventually worked myself up to 3 beets a week. That month I got a very heavy period. I thought it was detoxing and continue upping the dose to a beet/day. I got another heavy period, I became very anemic, the blood panel confirms that.
As I later found out starchy veggies such as carrot and beet are not good for hypo-patients even though they're usually very good for anemia.
I also have trouble with fibre. Although steamed yam seems to be fine. This is pretty much the only veggie I cook. I get very gasy from raw veggies. The only way to eat them is to make a smoothie.
I wanted to experiment with probiotics to deal with the gas as well as having more than one BM a day which is a pre-requisite for many of the cleansing protocols.
Have you tried the probiotic enema? I wonder if that's okay for LGS and hypos.
