My Doctor Wants Me to See a Psychiatrist

My doctor said that I have panic attack after I explained to him my symptoms. He prescribed me amitriptyline (anti-depressant, 10 mg a day). It helped in the beginning, but not anymore so he wanted me increase the dosage to 50 mg.

After I did my research by reading books and the internet (including this website),I went back to him and told him that I might have hypoglycemia and adrenal fatigue. My symptoms are butterflies in the stomach, faintness, lightheadedness, body twitching, low sex drive and shakiness that is relieved by food intake. He recommended a 2-hr glucose test. With the printout from the Australian Hypoglycemia Association's article in hand, I asked to read it cause the articlet said that a 4 to 6 hr GTT is recommended and that 2-hr GTT won't work. He did not believe the article and had me do the 2-hr GTT instead. Just like the hypo-AD books and articles said, the GTT result indicated "negative" and my doctor told me "you don't have diabetes". I was not surprised by his diagnosis cause by then I already read lots of info about adrenal fatigue and hypoglycemia. After about an hour after the GTT test, there came the fainting and shaking. I told my odctor about it but pretended he didn't hear anything. My doctor is good except in this area.

I am now on my 5th week of self-treatment thru supplementation and diet. I feel that I am slowly getting better. Following the hypo diet is hard especially when you are working. When I went back to my doctor for a follow up check, he said that I need to see a psychiatrist. I thought that I don't have to do that cause I am not in that stage yet, like I am losing my mind. I don't feel depressed either.

What do you think people? Will a psychiatrist help im my condition or it will be just a waste of time. I found a naturopathic doctor (ND) in my area and thought of going to her instead. The only thing that discouraging me to see the ND is the fact that it is not covered by my health insurance, although I don't have problem with the cost as long as it will help in my faster recovery).

I appreciate all your inputs to this.
