Re: 5,000 IU a day of Vitamin D - too much?

Yes Quinta_Essentia,

the body does have a built-in mechanism to prevent the over-formation of the hormone precursor leading to Vit' D3 production from over exposure to sunlight; but supplements are a different matter.
It is worth considering that if the body produces approx' 20,000 ius from just 20 mins exposure to sunlight (and I think that is meant to be full-body exposure), I would hardly think that supplementing with an extra 5000 ius would adversely affect anyones health.

230,000 ius is really pushing your luck: the same as overdosing on anything else, such as water (someone died fairly recently), fresh air (hyperventilation) and food (obesity). None of which come highly recommended.

There is an old saying here: "Everything in moderation" which should & could be interpreted as: "Everything that is GOOD for you in moderation".

Regards

Chrisb1.
