Hi chrisb1,

I have fasted twice: earlier in the year for 5 days only, because of fear of the unknown and because I had jaundice and problems associated with the liver. As you know fasting is not recommended for those with liver problems as the process taxes this organ heavily and can lead to problems.
My experience was good after 5 days allowing me to function more normally for a period. Over eating, and consuming the wrong type of foods again worsened my condition. As well as smoking intermittently and drinking alcohol.

Approx five and a half months months ago I completely stopped smoking.
(previously I have struggled to stop for more than 12 weeks and I have been stopping and starting for more than 2 years)
Approx 3 months ago I fasted for 14 days.
The benefits although clearly evident were not as complete as I though they might be.

I feel that I should have fasted for a further 7-14 days to achieve resolution of deeper rooted illness.

It was difficult and my willpower waned, especially performing a fast on my own with no supervision except for common sense (my common sense is questionable), a set of scales and urine strips to check when ketosis started and for any abnormal reaction to fasting.
Interestingly, I felt ketosis start - I got up after a sleepless night around 10.30am on the 2nd day of the fast & went to the toilet and checked my urine with a test strip.
Everything indicated normal - no ketone's present.
1 hour later I experienced a cramp/twinge low behind the right side of my ribcage for about 2 minutes, no pain - difficult to accurately describe.
10 minutes later I checked with a urine strip (curiosity) and there were ketones showing where previously there were none.

As I said in my last post, I am trying lecithin.
I can see that it is having a positive effect and along with the liver/gallbladder flushes hope to improve the function of my digestive system.

I hope I am correct in thinking it is because lecithin helps to dissolve/breakdown/emulsify cholesterol and lipids found throughout the body including the liver that I am feeling improvement.

Now that I have more confidence in fasting or my bodies ability to cope with it and that my liver is functioning better than when I fasted previously, I feel confident that my next fast will have much improved results.
I plan to fast for a further 14 - 21 days soon but I haven't set a date yet.

Fasting for me has been of serious benefit.
The lecithin (Lamberts lecithin granules) also appear to have a positive effect.
In a further 2-3 weeks I will be more definite about the effect and if significant will add to this post.
My only reservation is that the granules are soy based.

For me this has been a very trial and error approach - I have tried regain my health using a certain amount of logic.
It took a year and a half of research/reading to build up enough confidence to perform my first 5 day fast.



A question for you Re: cholesterol
hypothetically -
If a persons diet does not change significantly for 20 years or so. The person has no ill health for the 1st 12 years then develops high cholesterol towards the last 8 years of this period.
As the liver creates,controls and regulates the level of cholesterol in the body for repair/building to the vascular system, the connective tissues and the brain.

Q: Therefore doesn't high cholesterol indicate some level of liver disfunction ?

If this is correct, then why do so many doctors fail to mention this association.
I know that our processed diets have a direct effect eroding the livers ability to function effectively as we age which is why some doctors advise change of diet but others prescribe statins! which can permanently alter the physiology of liver cells.
