The bible describes history of humanity and the evolution of it's relationship with Creator. It seems apparent to me that this relationship has changed as homo sapiens 'matured' over time. As we have advanced in what drives our behavior from self-interest to social contract to universal ethical principles, so has changed the demands God puts on us. It makes sence that fear is an emotion which can be used to bring a wicked man closer to God, specifically fear of hell. It would not be as useful for a saint. A righteous man will most likely get more out love on his way to heavenly Father. It seems evident to me that God's ways to discipline His children have changed throughout time. His message is consistent in essence but the presentation differs depending on who He is talking to. The bible speaks to all people, whatever their stage of moral development might be.
