Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone had any information on fasting with MCT Oil (coconut oil for instance).

I have done many fasts in the pass. Master Cleanse, Juice fasting, water, urine.

At the time i had what seemed to be a mostly good experience with these fasts. Although i think ultimately this took a toll on my metabolism.

As we know the use of maple syrup as part of The Master Cleanse is meant to supply the body with a low glycemic source of glucose. The problem with relying on Sugar as a primary source of energy are increases in insulin spikes and the related problems - promotion of fat production, increased appetite, diabetes - insulin resistance etc.

I would propose substituting some.. or all of the maple syrup with MCT oil, for a short fast. MCT oil is easily digested and acts more like a carbohydrate than an oil. It is digested directly in the liver and converted to ketones as energy for muscles, brain etc. Supresses appetite. It is thermogenic and promotes absorbtion of with some minerals and amino acids.

Additionally, MCT/Coconut oil is full of caprylic acid which is used to kill candida and works as an anti-fungal/microbial treatment.

There are many more documented and undocumented claims.. I won't list them all here but recommend to anyone interested to research MCT oil themselves.

I personally have not tried this.. Anyone here tried this?

If you are fasting for weightloss it seems really obvious this would be WAY more effective than fasting with carbs (juice, maple syrup etc.).

    "MCT's are more easily and rapidly digested than other types of fats, as they require lower amounts of enzymes and bile acids for intestinal absorption. MCT's are metabolized very quickly in the liver and are reported to encourage an increase in energy expenditure, while decreasing fat storage."
    
    without getting into the Science of MCT oil is easily and rapidly converted to ketones, the only other "body" food (other than glucose). The liver directly converts MCT oil into ketones which are directly absorbed as "food", like glucose.
    
    MCT oil is being used as a treatment for alzhiemers and parkison's and other related illnesses as these illnesses resemble a sort of diabetes of the brain. Ketones provide the nurishment needed to keep the brain functioning.
    
    You need glucose or ketones to survive. you can survive on either. Meaning if you did not ingest ANY food that ends up as glucose you would still live.
    
    Thinking that taking large doses of insulin spiking sugars is easy on your body is misguided. Would you feed yourself on a diet of sugar? There are definite advatages, from what i can tell from substituting Sugar with an MCT oil.

      Like I said, I love coconut oil (discovered it 3 years ago so do not assume I am a newbie) and I definitely am not a fan of Sugar or glycation - I think everyone should try eating coconut oil daily, but to call it a "fast" is a bit of misnomer in yy opinion - that's all I meant. A glass of vegetable juice, while causing a rise in blood glucose, will pass through the digestive system quicker than a glass of coconut oil would and personally, I am not sure I could handle having so much coconut oil. To me, a fast implies resting the digestive system, but I guess you can define a fast however you want to.

        MCT oil is 100% MCT oil. And in terms of digestion i'd say digesting a glass of vegetable juice would be more taxing on your system than less than a tablespoon of MCT oil (the tablespoon of MCT oil delivering more usable energy as well).
        
        I don't assume you're a newbie at all. I don't know anything about you except for what you have posted. I'm not a nutritional scientist but i don't agree with what you are saying. Try eliminating Sugar from your diet for a week and see how you feel. If the purpose of a fast is to allow the body to heal itself than eliminating Sugar and replacing your body's energy requirements with an alternative source of fuel is a fast. All the systems that use glucose get a rest. Pretty much your entire body, all tissue, brain, muscles. including your digestive system.. and if your digestive track is full of parasites and fungus like candida your body will probably thank you for the alternative fuel.
        
        MCT oil will feed you. Your body will readily consume ketones as a source of fuel. And lots of other great things can happen when it does.

        Hi I am on my first.day of mc and am using 1 Tbls of mct oil per glass as a complete substitute for the maple syrup. So far at the end of today I have so.much energy its amazing. I have done the mc before and only used 2 Tbls of maple syrup in the whole daily batch. All the maple syrup makes mebsick to my stomache :(. Anyone else else tried this in the past? I will not lose my muscle because every athlete will tell u muscle e
        = metabolism and doing a cleanse and losing ur muscle is counter productive in the long term. McT oil is digested by the liver so it still meets the requirements of the cleanse. Please, has anyone done a complete substitute before?

  I am on day 2 of a modified cleanse. i have substituted the lemon for apple cider vinegar. yesterday i completely left out the syrup. today i again did not take any syrup at all but i did have some molasses and some wheat germ oil... i was curious if anyone else had ever fasted while ingesting wheat germ oil before, and would also be curious about people who have fasted and ingested coconut oil, however, even though for this fast I think I would very much like to stick with the wheat germ oil, perhaps!!! i feel so far like the wheat germ oil has given me a lot of energy...

Seems like tIme for an Equinox Cleanse ... Spring Cleaning! Who else is cleansing now? Or soon?

I'm committing to 10 days, but depending on the vibes, might go longer.
My modifications are
- drinking some ozonated water first thing each day for morning hydration
and extra energy
- drinking 2 cups of kpmbucha per day for extra cleansing
- adding 2 tablespoons of MCT Oil (and leaving out 1/4 cup of maple syrup
per day) for extra energy and to reduce muscle loss.

Hopefully, these mods don't add much to digestive processes and do add more energy to my day. Mixing up lemonade with kombucha tastes great. Mixing in the MCT makes the whole batch oily and unpleasant texture-wise. So, I am just taking the MCT from a spoon twice a day which is easy enough.

If I still feel hunger by Day 4 or 5, I'll conclude that my digestion didn't shut down enough to make the cleanse worthwhile and I'll start abandoning the mods to see what does work for me, reverting to a strict MC, if needed.

  I made another modification to the MC. Day 1 is the only day I did SWF. Starting with Day 2, I took 1 tsp of Colosan each morning with the idea that I will get extra intestinal cleansing from the peroxide scrubbing and dissolving power.
  
  Well, it works. I feel clean and get the requisite BMs. Seems like about the same total amount as with SWF, but spread out over the whole day, rather than all in about 2 hrs as with SWF. This was OK for for several days. On Day 6, though, the flushing has become too extreme. It is diarrhea-like. When I drink a lemonade, It comes screaming out the other end 20 minutes later, complete with mild nausea and that thrilling hot-pepper-on-the-anus effect.
  
  Is it a normal detox flush, or is it a too-much-colosan event? I don't know. I'll just ride it out, either way. Since I am absurdly well-flushed for this 24 hr period, and somewhat tired out, I think I will do no induced flushes for Day 7. Day 8 I'll either SWF, or say, try just 1/4 tsp Colosan to see what happens.

    All done. Orange juice never tasted so good.
    
    Fairly tame and moderate cleanse. Had face pimples and big tongue coatings on Days 2 & 3. Had notable intestinal purging on Days 5 & 6. Last few days feeling centered and meditative -- very nice rosy skin and cheek glow going on.
    
    I really liked adding oxygenated water to my early morning routine. It was a pleasant way to feel energetic without actually taking in any calories. It makes me "all tingly."
    
    I have mixed feelings about adding the MCT Oil. I liked that it helped with extra energy during the day, and did seem to help keep me physical active -- I even felt somewhat "pumped" after the mild exercise I was doing. This was an improvement from my usual tiredness during cleanses.
    
    It seems obvious to me now that when I took the the MCT, a bit of bile was released to process it. This had the effect of inducing a bowel movement. The small semi-solid BM obviously removed the day's accumulated waste, but was not a system-wide "flush" like one gets with a SWF, or with Colosan. I prefer a flush, as it seems more likely to clean intestinal walls and "free" the cilia. The MCT alone was sufficient to give the requisite daily BM, but trying to combine it with any other digestive flushing technique proved too much, distressing my system with diarrhea.
    
    It was surprisingly easy for me to transition back into solid foods. Today, I had OJ for breakfast, green smoothie for lunch, and am snacking on small meat pieces (wild venison) in afternoon -- without any ill effects, it seems right and good. I think that normally after a cleanse, it takes a little while for the digestive tract to get used to bile again, so one must come back slowly. Because of the MCT, I don't have that problem. Conclusion: MCT is counter to the goal of "giving digestion a rest."
    
    I liked using Colosan as an addition to the MC. It gave an extra and deeper measure of "cleanse," and served to replace the SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) or laxative. It did not work well in combination with MCT Oil.
    
    I am moving into a Paleo-diet approach, eliminating dairy and starch from what I was doing, and probably also adopting some version of "calorie-restriction," too, because I think my body will feel good on this type of protocol. I plan to continue with oxygenated water daily, with MCT Oil daily, and with a 1 tsp per week Colosan treatment. On balance, MCT is not a good fast or cleanse addition for me. I will not use it again for that in the future. I would use O2 therapy and/or Colosan on future cleanses.

Being a raw foodie I've never liked using maple syrup, which is definitely not raw, but I've still done the Master-Cleanse once a year, albeit begrudgingly. And I've never tried using agave nectar as it didn't seem to me to be very mineral rich (or even raw as a lot of new evidence is suggesting).

Now they've come out with this new syrup that is essentially raw coconut tree sap produced by a company called Coconut Secret. I'm currently using it and am on day four of my yearly MC. So far I feel good and don't have that cloying sugary taste left in my mouth like I used to on maple syrup. I'll let you know how it goes; planning on doing 21 days this time around.

    Truth is, I have been doing cleanses, fasts, etc. for so long I haven't really needed the support of curezone regulars, so I haven't been here in years. I returned to the site before embarking on my latest Master-Cleanse to see if anyone here had yet tried the coconut nectar in place of maple syrup because I wanted to try it myself. Since no one here (or anywhere else according to Google) has, I figured I'd document my own experiences. Though if they and I are suspect to the folks here I'll gladly go elsewhere.
    
    Although I certainly can't change your mind with words alone, I assure you I have no affiliation with the Coconut Secret brand or any commercial product whatsoever.

What can I do other than the SWF each day, I can taste salt in my skin, I've tried smoothe move in the am but I get terrible cramps and it's unpredidcitable when I need a tolite run. Is there anything that will not cause cramps and help me eliminate early and quickly.

I never heard of MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides) oil before seeing it mentioned in some earlier posts on this forum, but I liked what I read. After a quick googling to learn more, the idea of supplementing a standard Master-Cleanse (Master Cleanse) with MCT oil is attractive to me.

As I understand it, MCT gets absorbed directly by the liver. This bypasses the gut digestive system (enzymes), and so seems consistent with Master-Cleanse philosophy. Because it converts directly to ACT, the cellular energy-storing protein, MCT might result in more energy (i.e, less fatigue) for the faster, and might encourage more fat-burning and weight loss (maybe desirable for some folks, maybe undesirable for others, maybe irrelevant for yet others -- in which case, don't use it, just stick to the basic protocol, as you like).

I am going to try it. I have not liked the low energy I have experienced on other MCs, and I would be happy with enhanced weight loss, too. (yes, I have read ALL the FAQ, thank you.) What dosage MCT, however?

Internet searches told me:

i) clinical trials of 15 to 28 ml /day over 12 weeks result in significant weight loss (8 lbs) when MCT replaces the same amount of fat given as olive oil to a control group.

ii) weight-lifter sites recommend 60 ml /day in 4 equal doses for lean muscle retention and fat loss when working out. People are actually gaining weight in muscle mass compared to control groups at this dosage -- that's just from product literature blurb, so take it or leave it.

iii) 15ml of MCT is 1 Tablespoon and about 100 calories. So, 60 ml would be 4 Tablespoons and 400 calories.

iv) Maple syrup is about 840 calories /cup. A 10 oz. Master-Cleanse drink is made with 2 tablespoons (1/8 of a cup) maple syrup. So, MC drinks are about 105 calories per drink. The MC protocol is for "up to" 12 drinks per day (1260 calories).

With that info, I can make an educated guess at what might be appropriate.

Say, I start out at 10 drinks per day (at 10 oz/drink thats 100 oz = 3.25 quarts total). I'd like then to get (this is arbitrary), say, 200 calories from MCT and roughly 800 calories from the maple syrup. My bulk recipe for one day, then would be,

20 tablespoon lemon juice = 10 oz. = 1.25 cups
2 tablespoons MCT oil
16 tablespoons maple syrup = 1 cup
1 teaspoon cayenne

which I then mix up with water to 3 quarts or so (bit more, actually).

So, that is what I propose to do for my next MC (modified), which I plan to start next weekend. I would like to hear other people experience in combining MCT with MC. Have you tried it? What quantities did you take? What was your experience on the fast?

I have done the Master-Cleanse a few times before and usually have not experienced this, however I am much more overweight this go-round and I believe probably much more toxic. I just took a few tablespoons of MCT oil, and wanted to try adding this a day perhaps in place of a drink. It has only been an hour since I took it, but I seem to feel some more energy. It did make me almost immediately congested, which is weird. Does it interrupt the cleansing process? How did it work out for you??

Today is DAY 1 of my modified cleanse... I hope to complete at least 5 days on this cleanse.

First of all, I was wondering about the daily SWF. I'm not sure my intestines can handle it.. Can't it be a little harsh to be having that much liquid removed from the colon?

Well today is only DAY 1 and so far I'm not hungry. I do not have laxative tea, but last night I took some of Dr. Schultze Intestinal Formula #1. I was actually up all night but this afternoon on an empty stomach I did the SWF. Just about as it's prescribed with 2 TSP salt and 1 LITER warm water... I used Himalayan salt.

Eventually I finally went to sleep and then woke up to use the bathroom... I thought more would come out, but prior I had already had 2 movements from just taking the Formula #1 and not sleeping, so.......

I wonder if it's alright to take supplements on this cleanse, such as KELP and/or probiotics. Some might say to wait on the PROBIOTICS until the cleanse is over, huh? Then again, maybe it's good to replenish before the next SWF?

I also wanted to supplement with some Epsom Salt mixed with warm water sprayed onto my body (I don't have a bath).. I am wondering how that would work at this time..

BTW right now I just completed around 2 weeks of PARAGONE and am looking to continue cleansing with PARAGONE after this cleanse!!!

Today thankfully so far I have not been hungry and I only had one drink with about 1 TBSP. ACV instead of lemon juice, and 1/2 TSP. cayenne pepper. I skipped the sweetener, and if I do end up using sweetener I think it will be Blackstrap Mollasses.

I want to lose weight fast, BTW. Also I like to be healthy and clean, etc.

  So I guess you can say that I have been using ACV instead of the lemon, and Wheat Germ instead of the syrup. HOWEVER~ the quantities so far have been very different I think also than what is typical. I have only had 1/2 TBSP. of the oil so far throughout the whole fast.. I also haven't had that many drinks with the cayenne and ACV... But other than water, those are the only things I have ingested (besides supplements, etc.) I am losing weight which is a big part of why I am doing this fast. And I am really thankful about that.

Hello! This is my first post. I am wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I am day 5 (my last planned day of the master cleanse). This is how I've followed the MC:

day 1: SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) in the morning (w/epsom salt)in the morning, lemonade throughout the day and smooth move tea at night before bed.

day 2: I skipped the SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) and had a PB shake in the morning, lemonade through the day,smooth move tea at night.
*the PB shake was 1 Tablespoon each and about 30-40 mLs water.

day 3: same as day two

day 4: same as day two except I used 1 tablespoon of the Bentonite and a tablespoon of the psyllium husk powder.

day 5: SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) using epsom salt, lemonade, and smooth move tea at night.

(I plan to do a Liver Flush tomorrow)

I am a little concerned that I have not had any large BMs since I've started. At first I got rid of lots of bile. I haven't been doing the SWF because they make me sick and don't seem to be helping. I did one today because I thought it might help the BMs at this point. By doing the BP shakes I figured my BMs should have some bulk to them but I only have one BM per day (in the morning) and it is mostly oily dark brown stuff that floats and a tiny bit of mucoid plaque (but only a tiny bit).
I'm not quite sure what I am doing wrong. Does anyone have any advice? Will it eventually all come out when I start eating regularly again? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)

I've done this cleanse so many times over the years from 3 days to 45.

I don't care what anyone says. Every friggen time I've lost muscle. I'm sure normal or average people don't notice but anyone who lifts weights has to. And I mean 50lbs+ in weights not 2lb dumbells. So yeah, plan on doing it and getting my 100+ grams of protein in via supplements.

Anyone else ever do this? Not looking to be talked out of it. I'm just curious really and ranting. I did this a few months ago for 2 weeks straight and my strength went down and I lost size and it took me a bit longer than I liked to get back what I lost. I also lost some fat with it which is great but it's the muscle I wanted to keep.

So this is day 5 for both my husband and I. The only modifications we have made is the addition of hoodia to help curb the hunger pangs, black coffee to ward off the migranes, and a veggie here and there to satisfy the urge to eat SOMETHING. This is my second attempt at this, the first time I did it by the book but felt crappy and didn't make it through the fifth day. Only last time, I did loose weight right away. This time I haven't lost any weight. I am wondering if my body just went right back to starvation mode and if that is the case, am I fasting for 10 days to loose a pound? I mean,...just being honest here, I'm not even sure if the cleansing aspect is legit (just sayin) and was mostly in it for the weight loss, and a change of eating habits. I guess I'm wondering if anyone has ever heard of someone not loosing weight at first then loosing in the latter half. I could use some encouragement. P.S. I want to believe in the healing benefits of cleansing.

I'm on day 8 of the Master-Cleanse and this morning after I did the salt water flush and then drank a little of the lemonade, I passed what i saw on the toilet tissue as a bright green movement! I'm freaked out by this because I've never seen this before. I drank a strong berry herbal tea last night at a tea shop and did not drink the smooth move tea. I feel fine otherwise. Is this bile and is this a symptom that I am putting myself at risk of gall stones or something?

Coconut oil is great, except, like any fat, it requires a lot of energy and time to be digested, so you cannot really call this a ”fast”.

vegetable juice is not 100% glucose. As coconut oil is not 100% MCT. Nor is ms 100% glucose. Ingesting simple sugars everyday is not good for you. we can probably agree on that. MCT oil is 100% ....

Maple syrup is GI 54 and Coconut Secret Nectar is GI 35, so it might be a better option for you. I’m only speaking from four days experience, however.
