  I have discovered black mold in a window air conditioner (which has been making me sick). I have removed the a/c.
  
  Now I wonder how much & what kind of cleaning I need to do in my apartment to be sure all the mold is gone. I have 3 HEPA air filters running and I'm vacuuming w/ a HEPA vacuum. I don't see other places where mold is growing (but it took me a while to realize this problem was coming from the a/c.
  
  Note: I have lung and skin symptoms - which will take some time to go away even if the mold is gone - so I can't reliably "feel" that it is all gone.
  
  Any advice will be most welcome!!

  Hi, all!
  
  Just had a very interesting experience that is worth sharing.
  
  Was just about to give up on living in the house I have owned for 33 years. Even with two HEPA/carbon air filters in this small 1,000 sq ft home, laundry smells were penetrating the walls and I was weak and groggy much of the time despite having done some great detoxing, desensitization, diet and lifestyle changes, spiritual growth, etc.
  
  Fortunately, before I took that drastic step, I started reading some of the available literature about the theory of healthy home construction.
  
  There I read about how combustion products from gas appliance can build up in the home. They back-draft down the chimney/flue. The combustion products can penetrate the tpye of stucco wall that separates my living space from the garage, where the gas water heater is. Also, there is not adequate ventilation for my gas stove. It was likely I was getting constant low-grade poisoning from these sources, and natural gas is a known sensitizer [cause of MCS]
  
  So, I tried an experiment. It is warm enough to leave all the windows wide open 24-7, thus equalizing the pressures within and without, eliminating the back-draft and diffusion through the garage wall. I also quit cooking on the gas burners and used an electric hot plate.
  
  Within a week, I am much less sensitive to the more obvious odors: Neighbor's laundry products, their BBQ lighter fluid and charcoal BBQ's, etc. I am not reacting to those at all, even when I can smell them for a while.
  
  Have not had to use the air cleaners at all!! Evidently, keeping the house closed up and the filters and dehumidifiers running was causing more problems than it was solving. What was really hurting me most was NOT the stuff that I could smell, but the odorless combustion products collecting in my home form my own appliances!!!
  
  However, I am now noticing more obvious reactions to exhaust fumes. Also, did some baking with the gas oven yesterday, and that triggered symptoms.
  
  Avoiding all gas appliances is a common recommendation for those with chemical sensitivities. It is also often ignored. I confess that is what I have been doing for over a decade.
  
  PLEASE consider going all electric if you have MCS!!!
  
  Even when electric is more expensive than gas, it is worth it if necessary to regain your health or avoid a far more costly move.
  
  You can experiment as I did in your residence or stay somewhere away from home for a week or two that has no gas appliances. See if your symptoms shift or go away.
  
  If they do, be careful as you return home. The retuning symptoms can be worse than they were before you left. It is worth it to know that you have found and can eliminate a major contributing factor to your sensitivities.

    I'm scheduled to have a gas fireplace insert installed into my home next week. It's SO cold in my home in the winter that with all the positive feedback I receive from my friends and neighbors re their gas fireplaces, I opted to install one.

      Strongly suggest that you make sure that the exterior combustion air supply duct is attached. Do NOT get a unit without that feature!!!!!
      
      Otherwise, such stoves can cause the type of back-drafting that I am taking about above with SERIOUS health consequences!!!
      
      Beware!!! NONE of the fireplace installer I talked to seemed to understand this back-drafting issue. Find one who DOES and can do your job right.
      
      I have a pellet stove insert myself. It was done without the special ventilation. I will have to fix mine before it gets too cold, or use other heat sources.
      
      BTW, why an insert??? There are cheaper, cleaner, safer ways to heat.

          U could start by reading John bower's healthy home book and his book about air handling, heating, cooling. Best options vary widely with circumstances, building, site, geographic area, personal needs.
          
          Unless you get a basic understanding of this stuff yourself, you will likely be sold something that is not the best option regarding health or expense.
          
          Remember, that poor health as a result of one's decisons regarding air-handling is too high a price to pay, search out what is going to be best health-wise, and pursue that choice.

        I canceled the installation of the gas insert...am pursuing more information about pellet stoves. I've contacted Lowe's and they commented that they haven't been selling these so no one seemed to know anything.

          I am in the process of evaluating whether to discontinue use of my pellet stove. Even tho no spectacular immediate reaction to it, as I improve the fresh air supply when changing and updating my home's ventilation, can't see any point in having to use expensive filters in my HVAC to filter out VOCs and particulates from the pellet stove.
          
          Again, get John Bower's healthy home and air handling books and or others similar, read them, then make your plans. Pellet stove may be a bit better than gas, but not much!!!! Especially, do not pay for a new one. You can get something better and much cleaner if you do your homework.

  Just wanted to get back on here and help people who are struggling. I recently got reinfected when I moved an old bed into my new apartment from my parents house that my dog had been sleeping on. Stupid I know but I had slept on it a bunch of times and never felt anything. But I had done a parasite cleanse with ingesting Epsom Salts and my skin was really sensitive. I found out I was going through the herxheimer reaction. But I cleared every thing up in one month and I'll tell you how. I threw out the bed and frame and kept my new bed in plastic and slept on the couch. I got two $80 air cleaners from Amazon that have UV lights and an $80 UV disinfecting light from Amazon and kept them on whenever I could. UV light destroys the DNA of insects and they use it in labs to control insects and in hospitals for cleaning, so you know it works. For the carpet I spread diatamaceous earth and borax, both insect killers, and brushed it around with a broom every few hours for a few days, and vacuumed. Then I rented a rug doctor and cleaned the carpet and then added permethrin to the water and cleaned it again and it was fine. For my clothes I bleached what I could, and used arm and hammer and borax for every thing else. When you go through the herxheimer reaction which is a die of parasites. You have to get rid of the toxins that are left over. It causes itchy skin, confusion and other symptoms. I didn't get much sleep from the itchy skin for weeks but I looked up what to do to help, and I found out it is actually natural and healthy to go through this and I didn't feel too bad. I ate right drank more water and took a lot of vitamin c, vitamin d, and a magnesium and zinc supplement. This started in February and I have been fine for more that two weeks. Hope this helps.

        Hello is there anybody out there? I’m having a tough time today. I can’t remember what my life was like before . I didn’t realize how awful I look. I saw myself in the mirror today..my once full head of hair is now patches of I don’t even know what to call it. My skin doesn’t feel like my skin. I cannot wear skirts any longer. And I unfortunately have figured out that I have a parasite living in my head..my forehead to be exact. Right on my pineal gland. I’m scared.ever since we moved from a moldy home it has been one bad thing after another. My love had to go to the Er last night after noticing his foot swelling to the size of a pumpkin. He got some X-rays taken...I guess the dr didn’t see anything wrong and labeled it an infection.
        I’m tired so tired. I so badly want to give up. I made a promise to my partner That I wouldn’t take my own life. I think about doing it everyday.i know that I have so much to be grateful for ... it’s just that all those things I am grateful for are covered in parasites or weird fiber things.i have not been able to sleep much with the worm in my head.
        I don’t even know what kind of parasite it is this week. There are so many.
        I want my life back . I want my life back. I want to find joy. I want to not feel ashamed about the way I look. I have been fighting and researching and medicating and trying to heal. I’ve lost so much . The only thing keeping me alive is my love for my partner. We were hoping to get married..to have kids... to have a happy little family.
        It’s not going to happen. And I am so sad about it. The future that we had dreamed up and start ed to create is now a memory. I’m afraid of living this half life. I hate what this has done to me. I hate all the doctors that labeled us crazy instead of trying to help. I hate my parents for abandoning me..again. I hate thinking about how much I hate. I used to be a happy person with a job I loved, friends, and a wonderful boyfriend.
        There is none of that left. I’m slowly losing my mind. I’m slowly losing my partner.. and the worst part is our dream home is infested . Just like our bodies. I hope I can make it through today..one Foot in front of tthe other.. I’ve had some tough times in my life. But this is beyond my realm of understanding what tough is . This is a nightmare that I haven’t been able to wake up from. I’m scared. What will become of us?

  Hi all, this my first post. My mother side family has all chronic flatulence. I have it to. It get in the way of school, college and now my work. My co-workers complain to my boss and I try to explain I cannot help. I have tried perscription med but not working. I try to explain it not controllable, they all think I am playing fun but this is serious. I may loose my job they fed up.       That's a good idea. Here's what i do for Liver Cleanse to combat allergies...
      I juice ...
      Apple - 1 medium
      Beet Root - 1 beet
      Carrots - 8 medium
      Celery - 2 stalk, large
      Spinach - 3 cup
      I juice every morning since i got my Lifespring juicer.
      Best of the beet juices so far! I added a lemon to brighten it up a bit. Tastes awesome! :) And sometimes I substitute brussel sprouts for spinach - really nice!

  just relocated with my family to Dallas a few months ago and would like to create a support group for Dallas Chemtrail cleanses
  
  Right after I got here in Oct I noticed a huge chem dump in the sky and thought uh oh. I tripled up on vit c and d but still went down hard. Nov and Dec have been a nightmare of pain/sinus infection like I've NEVER had/pain/bleeding/congestion pressure.
  Struggle with low thyroid/chronic fatigue fibro and currently low grade fever so will keep this short but will monitor and add more.
  I KNOW my body's collapse has something to do with this chem dump from early oct.
  there is peremethrin in the mix according to one article. so CLEARLY the agenda is depopulation because even I know that is poisonous and carcinogenic. PLEASE if you have any experiences or solutions that are working post here. we could help each other. every dr. I've been to in last couple months says they've never seen such a wide spread outbreak of 'allergies' in a city already known for allergies (wish I'd known before I moved here. I'm barely functioning and have had to cancel many plans) thanks for your ideas. let's work together and do something great to overcome this.
  My next message will detail remedies I've tried. So far the most useful is Sea Salt water flush/nasal passages

  I have been a vegan for 20 years, but now started taking meat. As of now started with bone broth. Later would like to move to chicken and lamb. A few questions:
  
  - While cooking, the smell of meat is a lot, can some precaution be taken? Similarly, can something be added to the meat while cooking? Some herb (I'm also doing parasite and candida cleanse, therefore can't taken unhealthy stuff).
  
  - In home, after cooking the smell becomes more like of meat. Would someone suggest some way to keep the smell subdued?
  
  - Utensils also have that smell, anything for that?
  
  - Trying to eat this, learning curve is long primarily due to the smell. Anything to suppress the smell?
  
  My limitation is due to the parasite and candida cleanse, I can't take gluten based or dairy based products. Sugar or any junk stuff is also not suggested for me. Ideal would be some herb or maybe some spice that doesn't interfere with the parasite and candida cleanse.

    Add lots of coriander to your soups to help familiarize your nose to the smell, and add the meat slowly. It's a case of the amygdala (the nose brain which prepares your gut for digestion) telling you it's not food, because your gut's fully primed for digesting veg. Literally, the bacteria which populate the small intestine tell your gut what's good and what's not.
    
    Your bone broth is perfect for adding trinkets of meat to. If it's bones from a local slaughterhouse or butcher, you can ask them to leave the cartilage and a little bit of the meat on the bone. The slow boiling of the bone broth should give some amino acid content to the water, that helps start you as well.
    
    At 1 full day of simmering on low from the slow cooker, I find the meat from my cow bones to be very tender and light. If you get the same, I suggest reserving the meat to add back to the water after you put your veg into the broth. Porportion helps- aka, a lot more veg than meat to begin with.
    
    Boiled meat also gives a LOT less odiferous content- aka, less of the charred and cooked scents that can be troublesome with roasting and frying.
    
    Biblically it was /the/ reccommended method of cooking meats for the levitical families, there was some problems for Samuel's family when his sons got cruel and addicted to roasted meats (they were spoiled brats, aka, disrespectful.) There is warning in proverbs against eating too much meat because of problems of grumpy behaviour, ('do not be lovers of meat'-)
    
    It's a question of balance. Alkiline minerals to smoothen out the intake of amino acids. :-)
    
    
    
    Speaking of which, egg yolks in OJ's one of my favorites for both long-chain fatty acids and protiens. :D
    The egg white also has a very good amino acid profile.

  I am not able to get my house . It's always messy and often dirty. I only see big mountains of work instead of seeing a task which I can get through systematically.And worst of all, I am so tired of living in the mess. I don't let anyone into my house because I am so ashamed of it. It's only a small one room apartment but so much has to be done here. And I can't do it.   I was in live/work situation in Berkeley about 5 years ago. I did some light carpentry, exposing part of a wall for repairs, exposing God knows what, probably mold, lead and some kinds of nasty stuff. Unfortunately, I was told that was common up there and it's hard to detect. Mold doesn't show up on MRIs, x-rays and blood work.
  
  I spoke to an air quality specialist. She advised me to leave. I did. She advised me to throw my belongings away. I didn't, not right away.
  
  It was as if they were covered in something. Mold, toxins, I don't know. I had a lot of reactions when I was in areas where my belongings were. Naively, I thought the symptoms would end. I reluctantly tossed my stuff. It took a long time and I had really bad health issues.
  
  Now, I still a few funky symptoms:
  
  - waking up with sinus and head pain
  - weird dreams
  - foggy sensations
  - weird throat sensations, like the feeling of cool mint, except it's not mint, it's like a chemical-nature.
  
  I use 2 air purifiers, one with UV-C to zap mold on a DNA level. I think that's cool. I also have a Verilux UV light wand that's similar, except it zaps things within 1/2" or so of the 'wand'.
  
  I go to the gym and sauna, hike, which really help.
  
  I use all natural stuff - body, hand, and laundry soap. I have a feeling there's some of mysterious toxic stuff still hanging around my room. Anyone know how to blast it, or bump up my immune system or my inner strength to stop these symptoms?

        Thanks again for the resource. I spoke to someone from Ozone Forever. It seems like a good machine. Need a few additional things - a box fan, power strip, and a timer (to shut it off). Yes, you have to leave the room for an hour. It supposedly shocks the room, as he called it.
        
        Currently I use a Germguardian AC5250W air purifier. It's in CA, and I'm in FL. IT help the air, but surface things, like my bedding, or personal items, I don't feel it can penetrate, unless I hover it over me all night - not so easy, maybe not safe.
        
        So I am super careful of what I bring into my bedroom, and wash bedding often, otherwise I risk rough sleep.
        
        Wondering if there's a "surface-killer", like that Verilux wand I had, which didn't seem to work.
        
        I may try the Ozone machine, but if anyone knows of something more specific, that could 'blast' things like this ozone machine does, without having to leave the room, so I could use it before I go to sleep, or use right away if I wake up in middle of the night.

  I have some mould problem in my apartment and I am now looking for an air purifier to improve the air quality. However, I hardly know anything about air purifiers, so I would welcome any advice.
  
  I have a two room apartment and I would prefer a purifier without too much maintenance. The "air washers" with humidifiers are probably out of the question since I don't need any more humidity, and from my first browsing at HiMart it seems like HEPA filters might be the way to go. But from my understanding, I would have to buy new filters for them regularly.

  For almost 2 years now my health has been deteriorating and it seems very rapidly. I have been living at a rental home for 13 years and just entered into a lease/option agreement 2 years ago. The home is on a concrete slab foundation and has a septic tank. We do have town water. We have had some flooding and plumbing issues in the past. The house is carpeted throughout accept for the kitchen and baths. I had noticed some black mold and treated them with clorox and they went away.On Top of regular vacuuming, the carpeting has been shampooed with a steam cleaner at least twice a year. We have one bath that has no ventilation and there are signs of black mold there. All and all we thought that we were handling the problem with household cleaners and sanitizers. I live in a small suburban like community where there are lots of trees. About an acre-sized lot behind my house was sold and the trees were knocked down and left in 2 piles to this day. They did try burning one of the mountains but it didn't seem if the burning bought it down too much. I have seen vultures swarming over the tree mountains on many occasions. I am writing all this to give you an idea of everything that I think is responsible for my current illness. For the past 2 years I have gone more frequently to my primary doctor and others and the emergency room with no answers to what was going on. My symptoms consisted of diarrhea, constipation, uncontrolled flatula, itching burning eyes, puffiness on my check bones and swelling and dark circles under my eyes, nausea,vomiting, extreme fatigue, hot and cold sweats, unbelievable memory loss, ADD? Acne,itching dry and scratchy skin all over body. I am 58 years old and understand that you may start losing hormones and other things but this was very strange. Once I was diagnosed with yeast infection (which I have only had maybe once or twice in my young lifetime), Then a bacterial infection, then was referred to a mental wellness practice for help with my add and (possible memory loss). After doing my own research, I believe that all of this is due to the mold in and around the house and from the cleared lot behind my house. In doing my research I noticed that doctors that treat and diagnose this issue are hard to come by. I did make an appointment for next Tuesday with Allergypartners. They are specialist in allergies but this kind I don't know how extensive. I feel that this is a very urgent issue but this is the earliest appointment that I can get. I am looking for alternative and natural healing methods as well as any info pertaining to specialists mds on this subject in my area, Wilmington, NC. We are making arrangements to move ASAP. As far as what to do about the money we have invested. We are working on that.

    The worst of Mold issues are usually hidden. If there was flooding, then mold can be under the carpeting pad, in the walls and in the ductwork for your heating & A/C system. IMO, you may be living in a death trap. If it were me, I would move out of there ASAP. It is the landlord's responsibility to deal with it. Your health is not worth sacrificing. Thanks for helpful diet info and the info on Iodine. Many of us mainly get our Iodine or a portion of it, through table salt . Just wanted to let everyone know to make sure to read the labels on your salt containers. There are many salt manufacturers not including iodine. The packaging is literally identical to the containers with the iodine. Did this for almost 2 years before realizing this.

If you feel better outside than your problem is obvious BUT if you feel just as bad outside as you do inside it could be all the leaves on the ground have become moldy and could possibly be contaminating your home. Personally I won't go outside in the fall unless it's absolutely necessary and when I do I wear a surgical mask to collect all the dead leaves that have gathered around the house. We can't take anything away from the carpet getting wet and cement slabs are notorious for wicking up moisture from the ground and causing the carpet to get moldy. Lowes sells some plastic that painters use that has an adhesive on one side. Buy 2 or 3 rolls and cover the carpet hopefully that will give you some relief till you can find a safer place to live
