I and my dog were infested three and a half years ago with what must be assumed was bird mites. I sat on the verandah of a house that was rarely cleaned and was surrounded by native trees and full gutters. The verandah was frequented by wild birds.

At the time I got infested I had a skin cancer on my leg which had just been treated. My husband was also there at the time and though he got bites that night, he never developed an infestation as myself and my little dog did.

It is BS that bird mites cannot live on or in the human body.

Please find enclosed, the results of 3 years of my research which resulted in a cure for a severe infestation of mites in the human body.

I share this in the hope of being able to prevent/reduce the suffering of any other person who may become infested.

This is the only treatment I found to work, despite trying every human and animal drug available. 

(Other tried treatments listed below)

The specialist medical community is unable to help, unwilling to support in finding a cure and is ill informed. 

This condition is serious. It caused extensive scarring and trauma, shame and isolation. Trying to find a cure caused expenditure in excess #15,000, caused my dog to lose his sight temporarily and be admitted to ICU to save his life. 

I encourage anyone who shows signs of a mite infestation from an infested environment to begin this regime immediately and not waste time looking for a natural cure or an easy cure. There is none.

Instructions are included to treat the environment.

TREATMENTS THAT DO NOT WORK

Note: if the infestation is noted immediately e.g.: within 24 hours of contact a topical may work. If not these mites burrow rapidly and deeply into the tissues beneath the skin, creating nests and burrows which are invisible on the surface of the skin. The nests can be located as deep as one centimetre underneath the dermis and epidermis.
Topicals will not work unless used within a couple of days.

Permethrin of any kind

Benzoyl Benzoate scabies lotion
Stromectol
Ivermectin horse & cattle treatment ( mites are resistant - causes symptoms of slurred vision, speech & gate, long term)
Moxidectin horse paste (this is the one drug that appears to work but is very toxic) (causes neurological problems, loss of sight, tremors, instability) 
Praziquantel dog treatment
Advocate dog topical treatment. (this is moxidectin and it does clear out areas where the mites have not been able to burrow deeply, such as the scalp). I personally used app. 15 packets of Advocate for Large Dogs= 60 tubes
MMS internally
Sulphur internally and paste and gas
Garlic etc etc
Mineral Turpentine
Frontline
Sulphur Lyme Dip baths
Lye baths
Bleach or Hydrogen Peroxide

ALBENDAZOLE
THE ALBENDAZOLE REGIME

SUPPLIES TO HAVE ON HAND BEFORE STARTING

1- VALBAZEN SUSPENSION 11% brand Albendazole – 2 x 500ml bottles or 1 litre
DO NOT REFRIGERATE – buy online from US Vet/Animal suppliers – Shake well before using. 

Suppliers - Google .......vet supplies US ........or animal supplies US and type in the words. ALBENDAZOLE  or VALBAZEN SUSPENSION- delivery takes app. 3 weeks. I cant give suppliers on here. It's easy to find just take some time.

Valbazen suspension appears to have superior absorption compared to albendazole tablets.

Do not use generic Albendazole that is available in Australia. It is an inferior product and does get absorbed.

2- 10ml syringe 

3- 1ml syringes if treating pets

4- Small sealed containers for taking dose to work

5- Amoxicillin 400mg 30-40 tablets available through Fishtank suppliers online w/o scr1pt Google “fish Amoxicillin”( to treat bacterial infections caused by the dead/rotting mites)

6- Benadryl Original Cough Medicine (Diphenhydramine) for the increase in itching

7- Stemetil/Nausetil Nausea tablets 5mg 30-40 tablets 

8- Nurofen/Ibobrufen 200mg 

9- Doxycycline 100mg tablets – 100 tablets = 6 weeks supply (for taking after the initial Valbazen treatment to prevent Lyme disease developing) available through fish tank suppliers. Google "fish Doxycycline". yes it is safe to take. It's the same as humans take.

 
DOSAGES
1. 10mls Valbazen every 12 hours. Eg: 7am + 7pm. Taken with a meal PLUS a tablespoon of butter on a piece of bread or some other source of fat. Eg; peanut butter.

PETS – approximately one and a half mls every 12 hours for small cat or dog (under 10 kgs).This may seem a high dose, but a lot is lost in getting the dose into the stomach with a dog or cat.

1 + half a ml. PLUS a teaspoon of thick sour cream or at least a tablespoon of liquid cream

Leave any spills or drops on their mouth for them to lick off.

NB: There is no point in treating yourself if you have animals in the house and do not treat them. They WILL have them as well, regardless of whether they are scratching or not. Your pet will get Herx responses as well. See explanation of Herx below.

If they go off their food, this is a sign they are feeling nauseous and have a temp. Stemetil & nurofen will ease their discomfort to get them through it.Work out their dose by their weight comparing it to what is on the bottle using common sense.

FATTY DIET & TOPICALS
1. Take Valbazen suspension with a small glass of milk + your meal. I believe taking extra fat is totally unnecessary. It was for me anyway.

Valbazen suspension appears to have superior absorption to other sources of Albendazole. 

2. TOPICALS. A topical is not necessary for a cure when using Albendazole and it is possible an oily based topical could interfere with the spread of Albendazole in the sweat. A simple cheap one like rubbing alcohol can provide peace of mind and does not interfere with the regime.

 
SYMPTOMS TO EXPECT

DAYS 5 -10 
1. Increase in itching Increase in movement, even when no movement detectable before starting 
2. A sense of irritation Increase in nips in areas previously thought clear 3. Increase in frequency of formed bowel actions 2-3 times per day (not diarrhoea) 
4. Appearance of reddened “tracks” on skin where none previously detected.
5.“Bites” in areas not seen previously. 
6. Bacterial infections – possible areas – sinuses, bladder, skin Purple/Red Patches and/or spots 
7 "Bruises"– this is dead mites rotting under the skin 
8. Pus in any sores, tracks or nodules – the body removing the dead mites 

DAYS 10 – 20 
1.Fear that it is not going to work. 
2. Slow steady decrease in activity and bites daily

DAY 20 APPROX.
1.Hope kicks in 
A CURE CAN TAKE FROM 30 - 50 DAYS. KEEP GOING

WHAT TO BE ALERT FOR - to know when to take AMOXICILLIN / Benadryl / Stemetil 

1. BACTERIAL INFECTIONS. Duration 3-7 days 
These can manifest in areas where the body cannot quickly remove the debris of dead mites through swelling. 
2. Bladder infections = manifest as low grade fever, frequent urination, stinging sensation
3. Sinus infections = manifest as post nasal drip, sinus pain, unpleasant taste/odor in mouth 
4. Skin infections = manifest as a different itch and pinprick spots on skin - 5. Inner ear is another possibility which would manifest as earache

 
INFECTIONS = Amoxicillin 400mg every 5-6 hours 

HERX REACTION 

- Duration 1-7 days 
- The body's inflammatory response to a large volume of dead parasites --- Looks like = slight nausea + occasional low grade temperature for a few moments 
- Very easily managed with 4-5 hourly medications 

NOTE: Several episodes of Herx reactions may be experienced during the time of use.

NAUSEA = Stemetil or any anti-nausea medication (over the counter at pharmacies) 1 or 2 tablets every 4-5 hours 

HERX INFLAMMATION RESPONSE= Nurofen/Ibobrufen 200mg every 4-5 hours for the slight temperature and inflammatory response

What feels like re-infestation in old areas. Duration 4-5 days ITCH – Benadryl – 3-5 mls every 4-5 hours. 

The end of Week One & all of Week Two can manifest symptoms that are convincing that the condition is getting worse, not better. Expect this and it is less disconcerting. It is due to them leaving their burrows in droves. This creates more movement and itch. What looks and feels like new 'bites' may appear. This seems to happen when eggs hatch and the mite dies under the skin before reaching the surface. 

The 10mls twice a day has been used by others on the forum & no side effects occurred.

Though 5 mls twice a day has cured SK. Check you are drinking enough water so all areas are receiving a good blood supply. Try to keep active to keep circulation reaching all areas of the body

This covers most of it. Any queries will have to be dealt with by using commonsense, keeping track of dosing and reading until your eyes glaze over. Nobody can give all the answers.

 
TAKING BREAKS & MAINTENANCE DOSING

I did not take breaks. I took it every day.

MAINTENANCE DOSING
1. Two different options apply here. You need to choose for yourself.
2. At the least Albendazole needs to be taken for two months after the initial month.
3. THREE MONTHS in total
4. You can take it every day or take it on a 5 days on 3 days off regime.

HAIR FALL
Yes there is a chance some of your hair will fall out. For me, it was 2 - 3 times the amount coming out in my comb when I washed it.

IT IS NOT PERMANENT. 

Nobody seems to know what causes it. The Albendazole or stress on the liver. I chose to lose some hair. It is not noticeable. Not everyone experiences Hair Fall.

LIVER
Sweet Kitten had her liver tested after her regime and it was perfect. I have not had mine done yet, but will when I have finished my maintenance dosing. 

UPATE: Liver test at the end of 3 months continuous use of Valbazen showed a perfectly normal liver function.

 
FLOORS - ENVIRONMENT ETC.

BORIC ACID - NOT Borax - Boric acid is the same stuff as in Roach Prufe.

You can buy it on ebay cheap. About $40 for a kilo in Australia.

Or just buy Roach Prufe if in US. Sprinkle a fine layer all over the floor and in rugs and leave there until you are cured.

Mix in a spray bottle with water. About a tablespoon in a bottle and spray your sheets every morning and let them dry. Spray your furniture. Put cushions in the dryer. 

Sprinkle Boric acid all over pets beds and anywhere they lie and near their food bow. 

It is better than DE.

It is no more toxic than table salt.

If was used in Granma's time for eye infections. I got thrush from all the antibiotics and I soaked a sponge in a pinch of boric acid and water and used that of half an hour twice a day . Thrush gone in two days.

 
CLOTHES
- A tablespoon of washing soda = sodium carbonate = same stuff as in Arm & Hammer added to your wash and let soak for half an hour kills them in your clothes.

SHOES
- sprinkle your shoes with Boric acid, it will kill any athletes foot as well or keep your shoes in a sealed bag with a Hot Shot Pest Strip when you take them off.

CAR.
- Do the floor of your car with the Boric acid powder and keep it there until you are cured.

SKIN AFTER IT'S OVER
- Dermaid or other over the counter steroid cream rubbed in each scar 2 or 3 times a day for a few months will reduce the redness of scars to normal skin colour
- Raised nodules will dry out and be able to picked out when the mites are all dead and the inflammation has gone
- You can get them cut out if you want but if you wait a while they will dry and be able to be removed by yourself
- Retin A cream will possibly restore your skin to its former state more quickly
- The nest material of the mites turns the tissue underneath the skin into a thickened stringy tissue with no sensation in it. Like a woven basket.

This will take 6 - 9 months to be pushed by the body's normal skin growth to the surface where it can be finally sloughed off gradually in the normal skin growth process.

HOW LONG CAN THEY LIVE IN CLOTHES ETC.
- Nine months (depending on species - bird mites have been proven to live for 9mths.)
- Keep a bottle of BB Benzoyl Benzoate available at pharmacies
- if you take anything out of the cupboard you have not used or worn and you feel an irritation or itch scratch the BB into the area. It kills anything that has tried to burrow into the skin.
- Until you are cured and healed keep a DEET based insect repellent on your skin whenever you go outside.
Stay away from other people's dogs, you never know which ones carry mites.


IDENTIFICATION OF THE MITE SPECIES

I SENT SPECIMENS OF BLACK SPECKS AND EGGS TO THIS LAB. THE LAB WAS UNABLE TO ID THEM BUT REMINDED ME THAT THERE ARE A MYRIAD OF SPECIES OF MITES. I WOULD NOT BOTHER WITH TRYING TO GET AN I.D. ALBENDAZOLE WILL KILL THEM ALL.

This US lab identifies the species of mite from live mites, dead ones, eggs, black specks, poo, scrapings of area, environment sample.
NOTE: they are very limited in what mites they can ID. If it is not sarcoptes or northern fowl mites, they wont know what it is. They use DNA testing.

Bird Mites contracted from infested verandah of a house I visited December 24th 2010. 
Symptoms started the next day with hives. Dog was present at same location and time.
Husband present at time. He felt itch at location but never developed infestation. Different skin type.

DAY - 39 Put dose up to 10mls twice a day. Dogs dose to 1.5mls twice a day.
Started Doxycycline twice a day. Started dog as well twice a day.
Also upped fat intake with doses.

DAY - 41 Think I might have lyme. Nauseous every day + fevers & weird smells

DAY – 43 Very faint nips only, not many. 2 in 24 hours, not acid ones. 
Today when I woke up my feet felt dried out under the skin and the skin felt tight all day

Can't remember what day I ran out of Valbazen. Between DAY 43 & DAY 50

DAY – 50
Took 25 - 50mg praziquanel over 48 hours big nips disappeared getting more. 
Gave dog 50mg every 6 hrs.
Fevers coming back. 

DAY – 54
Bad smell/taste coming back
5 x 50mg praziquantel 3 times a day – for 4 doses

Bought more Doxy PLUS Azithromycin
Dose will be Doxy 100mg twice a day for a month
Azithromycin 500mg once a day for 2 weeks (30 pills in bottle)

Dog get his dose.

Praziquantel Powder
The dose for 67 kilos is 1675 mg. 
Which is one third of a teaspoon - 3 times a day. 

After I ran out of Valbazen I alternated Ivermectin and Praziquantel every second day.

DAY - 58
FRIDAY 7TH FEB
Started Doxycycline 100mg twice a day
Plus   Azythromcyin 250mg twice a day
SUNDAY 9TH FEB
Put dose up to:-
Doxycycline 2 pills twice a day = 200mg x 2
Azythromycin 250mg twice a day

DO THIS FOR TWO WEEKS. DID IT FOR SEVEN DAYS ONLY. MAKES VERY NAUSEOUS.

WHEN RUN OUT OF VALBAZEN USE VERMOX (CHEMIST) MEBANDAZOLE
2x 100mg twice a day with fatty meal

DAY 65 TO DAY 69
Did PRAZIQUANTEL FOR FOUR DAYS WITH VERMOX BECAUSE NO ALBENDAZOLE.

THEN DO VERMOX OR ALBEN TWICE A DAY ONLY (IF IT ARRIVES) FOR 10 DAYS. 

THEN TAKE A WEEK OFF AND REPEAT 4 DAYS ON ALBEN PLUS PRAZI THEN ALBEN ONLY.

Bad depression episode lasting over a week hubby stayed home

Purple patch on left forearm and right forearm  size of large matchhead. 3 smaller ones on right upper arm

Nips on feet still. Slight. Small. Must soak feet in hot water one hour after dose.

My note keeping stopped here.

Six months later I am still cured. Just putting it out there due to the another scabies forum being ruined by the resident troll Don .
