It was a different type of physical activity. It motivated me to design a routine and stick to it. I loved the hike. Cardiovascular, I was fine. But, it wore my muscles down. Every muscle between my neck and toes is sore.
Nutrionally, I made three mistakes. I wasn't well hydrated before the hike, I didn't have the proper breakfast, and I didn't put salt in my water for the hike. I did pack healthy food to snack on. I surprised to see some people didn't bring any water or the proper snacks. I guess my weightlifting training taught me the importance of feeding the body (especially the muscles) properly. I packed grapes to quickly boost my sugar, a goat cheese and tomato sandwich w/ olive oil, pepper and salt, an apple with anpb and a tuna sandwich to eat when I arrived home. Despite drinking lots of water during the hike, I have a headache.
I'm looking forward to my next hike, which is next week. I'm going to run 2-3 miles twice this week and lift weights. The day before the hike will be stretch day. My next hike is on September 9th.
