Daily Word - James 1:2-4
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
Daily Recipe -
~Sourdough Bread~
* First, make sure you take 1/2 cup of your "sponge" and put it in your starter container (you can have it all washed and ready) so you will have it for next time -
1 Sourdough Sponge
2 Tbs Salt
8 cups Wheat Flour
Put these in a large bowl and knead for 15 minutes by hand, or use an electric mixer until it becomes somewhat springy. Let rest for a moment while you oil your bread pans, then Cut or pinch into 4 balls of dough. Smooth them into loaves and place in your pans. Turn the oven on for about a minute or until it's slightly warm, then turn it off. Put your bread pans in and cover with a thin cloth. Let raise for 2-6 hours or until bread has risen to half again it's origional size. Then for a last boost, take the cloth off and turn the oven on 400. bake for 10 minutes, then turn the oven down to 350 and bake for a final 25-35 minutes (or until desired browness). Remove from oven and let cool. You now have a fabulously sour, gourmet Sourdough bread!
Object Lesson -
The salt starts to bring out the flavors and the fresh flour is delightful. You know there are trials ahead, but you feel you can face them now. The kneading starts and it's tuff at first, painful and course, but it's necessary. Your thoughts start to get softer and blend together, the things around the edges pick up and you become smooth and stretchy, trusting every time you are pulled and piled that this is all for a purpose. Then it stops. Just before the last great step, the best of you grows and strengthens itself for the fire. Then comes the end. You are perfect!
