Day 20 waterfast

Contending with heartburn and nausea successfully. Healing crisis in my lower back and hip. Food-p 0 r n . Nearing the end of my fast.

Nausea and heartburn have been an ongoing issue for the past week (?) Lots of opinions on why this happens. It's not so uncomfortable that I will break my fast and I've found some ways to manage it.

1) no more lemon in my water. I've been pretty staunch about taking nothing except water for 20 days except for the lemon (and I tried Himalayan Salt once - disaster!). I'm convinced that the lemon was effective at the beginning of my fast but it definitely irritates the heartburn.

2) I'm boiling my water and drinking it warm. So far no heartburn.

3) the nausea is my biggest contention. I wonder if my stomach has reduced and I can no longer guzzle down a glass. I have to sip slowly and continually. If I take too many sips I'm nauseous. Trouble is drinking big glasses of water is how I was managing hunger pangs. It gives one a feeling of being full. So now I'm seriously fighting feelings of hunger from my stomach. And sipping water in no way helps these.

I've been having way more intrusive thoughts of very bad food. Especially when I need rest. This past weekend I attended a wedding reception with plenty of great food and drink. I abstained but it was a long day and further to that, a busy weekend. I was so uncomfortable mentally on Sunday night. Really wondering if I should break my fast. I had sense enough to just go to bed and I felt so much better this morning. Good day today.

The deep weakness and fatigue i felt earlier on the fast has lessened . Still, I seem to do everything slowly and methodically. So unlike my clutzy, manic self. But I like it. I can't push too hard physically with heavy things or anything that requires sustained strength. Yet I'm very goal oriented right now and am getting so much done around the house.

Finally, the herniated disc in my lower back that has turned into sciatica. Incredibly painful. Never had sciatica before but the herniated disc is an old recurring injury. I'm crediting detox for the intensity of this and calling it a healing crisis. I'm managing it with the only stretch one can do with acute sciatica and keeping busy because sitting and lying down irritate it so much. Also, I love ozonated olive oil. It truly helps manage the pain. Hot Epsom salt baths and hot water bottle. Bring it on detox! NO NSAIDS. My liver is thanking me.

I've decided to break this fast next week. Day 30. Hope I can keep it until then.
