Morning Day 6
New Moon & the beginning of a new practice
Date: 1/9/2016 4:47:06 PM ( 8 y ) ... viewed 781 times Well, nearly a week fasting today - a week if I count my prep day when I fasted till evening and had one last meal. Yesterday was tough, I didn't even make a blog entry - I woke up with the neck and shoulder pain really present again and it stuck around all day. I felt really washed out all day - also got my period - so I spent a lot of yesterday just resting, not doing anything more than fasting, doing mantras and stretching my sciatic nerves on the floor while watching movies. I've woken feeling better today - not 100% - my neck is still in spasm but its not debilitating me like yesterday - feel energized again and happy to start another day knowing it will be an active one. It's not much fun being all hobbled up in pain and feeling like I can't do anything. This muscle spasm has really been a bugger - its been going on since late November - eased up around the New Year and on NYE a person I was hanging out with gave me a playful shove when I took my eyes off him and was teasing him for a minute about something and it re-aggravated the problem - so now its the 10th of Jan and its still going on. Pretty brutal - maybe I should go and get some acupuncture - love it, but its expensive and a lot of travel and appointments from where I am in the country. The travel takes a lot of energy too - I'm kind of new to this area and just discovered there is one practioner out here so I could go and check her out. I love alt medicine but the price tag is always so high - $80-$100 a session and I'll need 3 of them... wish they could just charge something reasonable like $50 or 60 - if it was a little more affordable I'd go a whole lot more.
Anyway - enough of my morning grumbles :) Perhaps I should just bite the bullet - I just keep thinking that I'll wake up one morning ok and never really thought that this muscle spasm could just go on and on like it has this long. I've had them for a few weeks before but this has been twice that and it's a new record.
It's a dark moon today - new moon and the start of a new cycle of rising energy. It'll be my 41st birthday in a few days & I am going to welcome in this new cycle by planting out the rest of the seeds I want to plant and doing a special Buddhist practice called a Puja or Tsok where we make offerings to all the different beings in the Universe for good conditions for our practice.
I'm also going to start a sort of personal retreat which my fast is part of - doing the Chulen Long Life Practice - Chulen is a special Tibetan herbal medicine pill that practioners use to reduce the amount of food they need. It can be used eventually in place of food for people doing long retreat - taken at any time, it is also a very energizing preparation which can bring a lot of renewal and vigor to those consuming it. I won't be just taking it as a medicine, there is a long life practice that goes with it - In Buddhism, we pray for long life and good conditions so that we may have the time and circumstances to achieve our aims. At any rate, its the first time I've ever procured these Chulen Pills and I'm quite interested and enthusiastic. Today being the start of the first new cycle in this Gregorian New Year (to me the real new year doesn't start until the Chinese animal changes :) seems a great time to start. I've got enough Chulen pills to continue this retreat for 54 days - if I were to take 2 per day - perhaps some days I'll just take one and stretch that out a little longer. I've never fasted before with Chulen and after many years of fasting it will be really really interesting to embark upon this practice.
Perhaps the Chulen can also help me overcome this physical problem. I woke today with my tongue quite pink - perhaps a sign that I have detoxed an initial stage, I know from experience that my tongue will soon turn white again and the detox the fast brings will continue on to deeper levels. I think I'll also take my first enema today - a series I do when I'm fasting of 3 enemas - the first couple just to empty and cleanse than a retention coffee enema to really deepen the detox. After that I'll have a bath. A day of renewal, purification, and practice - planting the seeds, offering up blessings in all the directions and the beginning of a valuable new practice I can add to my fasting.
It's 9 in the morning, perhaps I'll write again at the end of the day.
Swastiastu all you readers :)
