February's Fast - Began Feb. 6 (new moon)
detail of Feb. 2008 water fast
Date: 2/7/2008 5:40:01 PM ( 16 y ) ... viewed 1831 times It is time to fast again =) I am embarking on an open-ended fast from Feb. 6 through...not sure. I am thinking about somewhere in the range of 20 days or so, but I plan to extend longer if hunger has not returned. This is in the spirit of my original goal of balancing my endocrine system, as well as dealing with issues of clinical depression. I am also happy to be fasting during Lent, though I hadn't originally planned it that way.
My first water fast ever ended on Day 10 (I only blogged days 1-7). Toward the end of the fast, I had stopped having the awful and uncomfortable acid reflux symptoms and actually felt very comfortable and peaceful. The spaciness I experienced through the fast was replaced with more of a high/mental clarity. Upon breaking the fast, I actually felt a bit bummed out and it took several days of fruit and juice cut with water before I was ready to tackle vegetables and other raw foods. I was amazed at how acutely aware I was of everything I ate, how it smelled, tasted, etc. I also was very aware of my digestion - it seemed to moving in slow, slow motion. I resisted the temptation of taking Senna Tea, and waited for things to happen naturally - it took about three days for things to move again.
So far, at Day 2 of the fast, I am having the "hunger pangs" or whatever my stomach is doing to adjust to no contents other than water. I experienced no headaches as of yet (likely due to having no caffeine or other stimulant drugs for about a month now). My temp has dropped a bit and I am cold (have come to expect this now with fasting). I have some slight aches in my arms and legs - nothing major. Also, I have slept well so far, but I fully expect the fasting insomnia I experienced last time to return. So, I have prepared by hitting up the library, planning some computer and apartment projects, and keeping as busy as possible.
I will check in here and there and report progress. Any other Lent fasters?
