One year on.... 11 y
It is now one year on from my ordeal - time to celebrate being cured with a bubbly glass of champagne!
This is the text of a reply I sent to someone experiencing this awful condition, from my perspective, one year on from being cured....
Thank you for your message, and I am so sorry you are currently experiencing the horrors I went through. Apart from feeling awful most of the time, what is almost worse is that people think you are being dramatic and whining about a bit of a dodgy tummy. They don’t understand that it sucks the life out of you...the pain, the exhaustion, the night sweats.
The only way I got through was to try to do something every day, towards hope for a cure. If I fel ... read more
Calcium assists to reduce diarrhoea 12 y
Discusses the regular use of calcium tablets to control diarrhoea
To control IBS diarrhoea, and maintain normal stools, I have finally found an answer that works for me.
People with constipation-predominant IBS, you should look into magnesium which can cause diarrhoea, therefore reducing your symptoms.
My focus is on diarrhoea-predominant IBS, because that has been my problem since a long-term multi drug resistant parasite infection (now cured) has left me with post infectious IBS.
Combined with the low FODMAP diet, I supplement with calcium tablets (600 mg of Calcium Carbonate), twice daily - once with breakfast and once with dinner.

Bringing together nutrition science and digital technology, Monash University researchers are making life easier for people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Please note that this is text taken from the October 2012 ”Monash” University Magazine.
Bringing together nutrition science and digital technology, Monash University researchers are making life easier for people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
IBS affects one in seven Australian adults and is common in the US, Europe and many Asian countries. It is a condition characterised by symptoms such as gastrointestinal wind, abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation. Nutritionists now know that the best way to avoid these symptoms is to avoid foods that contain a family of ca ... read more
Low FODMAP Diet - Eliminating FODMAPs 12 y
Useful list of foods is provided below. This diet really helps me manage my symptoms.
FODMAP stands for:
F - Fermentable
O - oligo-saccharides (galacto-oligosaccharides [GOS] and fructans)
D -Disaccharides (lactose)
M - Monosaccharides (fructose)
A- and
P - Polyols (sorbitol and mannitol)
FODMAPs are carbohydrates that are not fully digested in our bodies. They pass through our small intestine to the large bowel where they are fermented by naturally occurring bacteria. This results in the production of gas, and additional fluid being drawn into the bowel. It is this gas and fluid which causes pain in IBS sufferers.
So how do you find out if your IBS is trigger ... read more
Delayed gastrointestinal transit causing belching 12 y
Delayed gastric emptying and fermentation of foods in stomach, causing belching.
Also known as delayed gastric emptying, gastroparesis is a digestive disorder in which the muscles in the wall of the stomach work poorly – or not at all – preventing the stomach from emptying properly or in a timely manner.
Gastroparesis develops when the vagus nerve – which normally controls the transportation of food from the stomach through the digestive tract – is damaged.
In my case, this occurred through a parasite infection.
As a result, intestinal and stomach muscles fail to initiate the strong contractions necessary to propel food along (peristaltic wave action). This ca ... read more

Gut Focussed Hypnotherapy 12 y
Therapy developed by Peter Whorwell - Director of the South Manchester Functional Bowel Service.
In October I will embark on a 12-week program of Gut-focussed hypnotherapy with Gut Focussed Hypnotherapy Australia - http://www.gfha.com.au/. I am hoping that it will alleviate some of the pain I experience every day, and that it will improve my quality of life.
Each week I will attend an hour’s hypnotherapy session with a qualified psychologist, and every day listen to a CD for half an hour, which is to back up the treatment.
The treatment I will undergo is based on a therapy developed by Peter Whorwell, Professor of Medicine and Gastroenterology in the School of Medicine and Direc ... read more

Prolonged inflammatory response in IBS - cytokines and mast cells - visceral hypersensitivity.
Just an update.
I am still experiencing diarrhea in the morning only but also quite a lot of gut pain in the morning and through the day. Some days I feel depressed and think the parasites have come back. I know they haven’t though as I do have more energy and when I am strictly following the Low-Fodmap diet, I don’t have many symptoms.
I wish I could get rid of the nasty belching at night when I lie down. I think this is due to the motility issues/hydrochlorhydria caused by the original protozoan infection.
I did get some sense of hope from new research which suggests that, parti ... read more
Low Stomach Acid - Hypochlorhydria - Can Cause Food Intolerances, Malabsorbtion and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), Leaky Gut. 12 y
Parasite (or any infection which causes gastritis or gut inflammation) can cause the stomach to not produce enough acid, causing above conditions.
Information below from three weeks ago...
Scientific research suggests that parasite infection can suppress acid secretion. A gastric inhibitory substance in the parasitised intestine acts systemically on the stomach. Parasitic infections can cause a reduction in acid secretion without altering gastric mucosal histology. See ”Relationship between gastric secretion and infection” Gut, 1987, 28, 96-107. http://gut.bmj.com/content/28/1/96.full.pdf
One of the symptoms of hypochlorhydria includes malabsorbtion - wind, gas, belching and bloating as foods are fermented instead of being dig ... read more

Young Child Cured of Dientamoeba fragilis (UPDATED)
Recently, test results (3-day parasitology stool test) for my young son revealed he is finally also free of parasites!
I am so relieved. I suspected he was better, as his energy was much higher, he wasn’t so vague, or teary.
His successful treatment - over 10 days - doses based on 20 kg child:
-Furazolidone 30 mg cap. (30 tablets)
-Nitazoxanide 150 mg cap. (20 tablets)
-Secnidazole 120 mg cap. (30 tablets)
The poor boy had to have the capsules broken and the powder mixed with honey. The medicines could not be sent in the post in the form of syrup. He absolutely hated the tast ... read more

ABSTRACT:
Among 750 symptomatic and asymptomatic patients, Dientamoeba fragilis was detected at a prevalence of 5.2% and more common than Giardia intestinalis. Most infected patients presented with diarrhea and abdominal pain with symptoms greater than 2 weeks duration being common.
Bacterial and viral causes of infection were excluded by routine microbiological techniques. Tr ... read more
Parasite Infections can Cause Food Intolerances and IBS 12 y
Food Intolerances resulting from Parasite Infection. Parasite Infections as a cause of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Towards the end of my year of suffering - infected with the two parasites listed above - I was also diagnosed with Fructose Intolerance.
Even though through a number of concerted efforts, I am now finally rid of parasites, they have left an unfortunate legacy.
Having Fructose Intolerance means that I have a bad reaction - basically intestinal pain and belching, every time I have a food which contains Fructose.
You test for Fructose Intolerance with a hydrogen breath test. See: http://shepherdworks.com.au/disease-information/hydrogen-breath-testing.
Basically the parasites have ... read more

Kefir - Store-bought versus Natural Grains - Debate
Kefir that you grow yourself using the cauliflower-shaped florets are way better than the store bought sachets, or Kefir that you would purchase in liquid form in a shop.
I tried the Kefir sachets from a health food shop and tried to culture Kefir but it just made a liquidy milky drink with no flavour. That was $10 down the drain.
Then I found a local person who gave me grains and I have not looked back. Everyone at work has had a very nasty cold and bronchial cough and I have been fine. I used to get every cold around. Notwithstanding the benefits to my digestive health - post paras ... read more

Kefir and Eczema - Personal Experiment
I am doing a little personal experiment. Due to stress at work, the front of my neck has come out in unsightly eczema and I have now had it three days.
I only get eczema rarely. This time I think it came because of stress. My current boss just said he is leaving. If he leaves, it will be the fourth manager in less than a year. My team is completely sick of the situation.
I have read that Kefir soothes eczema. My son and I have already had our glass of Kefir for the day, so I have just used a fingertip to scoop the remains of the Kefir off the side of the glass.
I have applied this ... read more

The VSL#3 was recommended by the Centre for Digestive Diseases in Sydney - one of their research scientists had done a lot of research on the use of probiotics for post-patient care.
VSL#3 is freeze dried, and consists of special strains selected to best survive the trip to the small and large intestines . It contains 8 different strains and approx. 450 billion bacteria per sachet.
However, I also learned about Kefir. In my opinion, Kefir is having a great impact on my overall health now. I grow it.

Multi-Drug Resistant Dientamoeba Fragilis and Blasto Hominis Infection - Cure Information.
Over one year of suffering 2011-2012. I am providing this information to help other sufferers of these parasites and to let them know just how hard they can be to get rid of.
The parasites can mess up one’s enteric (gut) nervous system, and suppress stomach acid secretion, such that even if you are cured, you may end up with post-infective irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), food malabsorbtion issues, or intolerances to certain foods.
