Parasite Infections can Cause Food Intolerances and IBS
Food Intolerances resulting from Parasite Infection. Parasite Infections as a cause of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Date: 5/4/2012 11:25:32 PM ( 12 y ) ... viewed 3868 times Towards the end of my year of suffering - infected with the two parasites listed above - I was also diagnosed with Fructose Intolerance.
Even though through a number of concerted efforts, I am now finally rid of parasites, they have left an unfortunate legacy.
Having Fructose Intolerance means that I have a bad reaction - basically intestinal pain and belching, every time I have a food which contains Fructose.
You test for Fructose Intolerance with a hydrogen breath test. See: http://shepherdworks.com.au/disease-information/hydrogen-breath-testing.
Basically the parasites have messed up my digestive system such that I need to follow a special Low Fodmap diet: http://shepherdworks.com.au/disease-information/low-fodmap-diet to avoid this suffering.
I am not sure if I will have fructose intolerance for the long term now or whether I will slowly improve.
Prior to the parasite infection, I could eat and drink anything. Now I need to be particularly careful.
For more information on Fructose Intolerance or Fructose Malabsorption, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fructose_malabsorption
It all feeds into my strong belief that many people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) may well be infected with undiagnosed parasite infections.
Lack of cross pollination in knowledge among different medical specialist fraternities such as the gastroenterologists, infectious diseases specialists, and dieticians, mean that they have limited spheres of knowledge of causes/effects of certain conditions - which in the case of IBS and Parasites and Food Intolerances, span several domains of knowledge. Many cases are missed, I feel, because of this.
