I'm 41, I had skipped a well-check and was overdue for a mammogram when I noticed I had been getting my period twice a month for four months running. I'm used to it being irregular but not consistently regular (late here, early there...) Went in and my horrifying family history took longer that the actual visit with the doctor. I knew I had lost some weight because my clothes were looser but stepping on the scale I was down 17 pounds in just under two months without trying - that DOES NOT HAPPEN FOR ME. Bloodwork, ultrasounds, off to first available OBGYN. Bloodwork showed a couple things but of note was low iron and saturation - take ferrous sulfate once a day. Ate a whole bunch of Christmas cookies and home baked goods and managed to maintain my weight until I met with the OBGYN, or should I say the APRN that was not at the location I requested - over 20 miles away. Why didn't she just prescribe you OC's? I'm over 35 and have family history. Oh, she's covering her butt. She wanted to schedule ultrasounds, I just had them done. Oh, here they are, those are okay. Well we'll do a pap and an endometrial biopsy. Everything is clear, we'll try Progesterone only to regulate you. Didn't want side effects of pills or Depo-Provera. If Depo goes wrong you're screwed for 3 months, IUD can be removed, right? Yeah, it can make you irregular and moody for 3 to 6 months but it shouldn't be worse than what you're going through now and after that it's great. Okay, I'll try. She didn't tell me I could be bleeding in agony for 3 to 6 months, something had to be wrong. I was looking at my records to see when I was supposed to follow up on the ferrous sulfate to see when levels should be checked for dose adjustment or discontinuation - nothing I was diagnosed and released. Didn't want to go back there anyway. Changed PCP and scheduled with a different OBGYN (an MD this time). After two weeks of bleeding and severe cramping I called to move up my insertion check - there had to be something wrong. Got moved to the next available Dr. and when I get there he's family medicine and doesn't do IUD's. I'm in tears so he listens to what I have to say. He's very concerned about the weight loss and skin issues I forgot to tell the first PCP. Orders more blood work, a mammogram, stool sample, urinalysis, chest x-ray, orders me to drink three ensures a day in addition to what I normally eat to see if I could put some weight on (I was down another 9 pounds in just over 2 weeks). Blood work shows I am no longer anemic and my hematocrit is high - schedules me with a hematologist. The chest x-ray shows multiple opacities, he wants a CT scan. Cramping comes and goes but when it comes it's getting worse and I'm passing odd tissue (not red endometrial stuff - clear stuff and fleshy stuff). Now there's brown clots and the cramping feels like the labor pains one step before you ask for the epidural but they are lasting much longer. I bent over to pick something up and seized up - couldn't stand for 30 seconds. I can't take this - there has got to be something wrong so I go to Urgent Care, they don't do imaging and send me to the ER. Before they take me at the ER they tell me they don't remove IUD's. Fine, do you do an ultrasound to check placement? This can't be right. I was there for over 5 hours - no meds, no heating pad, nothing. It was tolerable until after I stood up after the transvaginal. I was curled in a ball in tears. I pushed the button to call the nurse and said look-if it's "properly placed" and you're not going to do anything get me out of here so I can get home to my heating pad. She brought me a warm blanket while my paperwork was done and they sent me home in severe pain. If I wasn't worried about the pre-existing and continued weight loss along with the chest x-ray and hematocrit levels I would consider giving it at least 3 months if they'll prescribe me something for the pain as the ibuprofen is not helping much and even with food my stomach can't take it anymore. With everything else going on I am thinking this thing needs to come out so it doesn't compound or distract from the underlying or additional diagnosis that was missed. I'm thinking I would be crazy to keep this thing in right now.

My Cheilitis was easy to treat. After reading some of the piles of web info and inquiries out there, I decided to give a quick note on my condition in an attempt to maybe help another. I’ve had this condition twice in the last 2 years. I get painful corner mouth cracks, and scaly peeling lips with mild lip irritation (feeling chapped, kind of puffy). At first, I treated it with chap stick for about 3 weeks, then went to my naturopath. Blood work showed low iron storage. (But not hemoglobin, to be clear). Also low zinc levels. I didn’t feel like I had any other symptoms of low iron, other than cracked lips. Here is what I did immediately: multi-vitamin supplement, iron supplement, zinc, Vitamin C.
Upon taking these, my Cheilitis responded within a few days, and in less than a week was gone. I also used coconut oil on my lips while they were healing. This only made them feel better, I don’t think it had much to do with curing the condition, and was hard to keep the oil on my lips. My Cheilitis has returned 2 years later. I haven’t been taking my supplements for about six months. This time I decided to try the anti-fungal cream (for ringworm) just to see if the web info was correct about its use. For 1 week I applied the cream 2 to 3 times a day. It did absolutely nothing to change the Cheilitis. I also tried apple cider vinegar and Listerine. Made it worse if anything. I started taking the same supplements that I listed above. Within 3 days my Cheilitis was almost gone. This time I used a lip balm made of Emu oil while they were healing. Again, this was to soothe the lips, not to cure them. For me, it is definitely related to a vitamin nutritional deficiency, and responds easily to supplementing. I’m lucky in that regard. If you plan to try vitamins, here is how and what I take: multivitamin has iron in it, and I take that with a meal, along with 500 mg Vitamin C (to help absorption, especially if you drink coffee which prevents nutrients). Later I take an iron pill that has B12 and folate in it as well (mine is 28mg) and another 1000 mg of Vitamin C tablets. (Again- the C is important). Later, I take a zinc tablet (10 - 15 mg) with 500 mg Vitamin C tablet. After a week or two, I start alternating days on the iron and zinc pills. My perspective is that something in these supplements is working to correct an imbalance in my body. I don’t know exactly what or why the imbalance causes my lips to display Cheilitis, but it is fixable. I’m a 48 year old female in pre-menopause.

Hi!

Been trying to shrink/get rid of a 4 cm complex ovarian cyst for about 6 months now. I've been using 5% Lugol's transdermally, and Iodoral with the companions. I have good pain days and not-so-good ones...getting a bit discouraged because it's still there, and I'm trying desperately to avoid surgery. Gyn/onc feels it is benign, but is ready to take the whole ovary "so it's never a problem again." He also offered a hysterectomy (hell no), and to be honest, I don't trust that I will wake up with the rest of my otherwise normal reproductive system intact. So it's scary. How long should I go on with the Iodine, and should I back off of the Iodoral for the sake of my thyroid (I don't have thyroid problems). Is there anything else I should try? I'm open to just about anything to avoid surgery. Thanks in advance for your wisdom.

I'm in my early 50s, have been having mambo hot flashes and irritability (sometimes outrage RAGE!), can't sleep at night, miserable generally. I took a ZRT morning-only saliva test (estridiol, progest, DHEA, cortisol) that showed my estrogen to progesterone ration was low, and that my cortisol was very low in the morning. I'm also hypothyroid. So, I'm using natural progesterone cream and natural estrogen creme, and thought I felt better, Yesterday, though, I added some ashwaghanda, and felt even angrier, almost crazy! Does anyone have any advice? I'm at the end of my rope! (Not really, but sure feels like I just can't get any relief from these hormone problems!)

My wife is 53 and uses estrogen cream to combat menopausal hot flashes. How long after application should I stop being concerned about the transfer of said estrogen from her skin to mine?
1. About 15 minutes after she applies it?
2. Some number of hours post-application?
3. The next morning?
4. Not until after she showers or washes it off?
She seems to believe #1 is the right answer, claiming that it is rapidly absorbed and not a threat after that. However my paranoia prevails.

My question has largely to do with morning sex. She puts the stuff alternately on the back of her knees and on her forearms, either of which I will definitely come in contact with during a normal roll in the hay.

I can't afford to buy one of those Ladycare magnets for perimenopause (going through a LOT of symptoms), so I found a rare earth magnet that's 3,000 GUs (the ladycare is 2,700) and I'm planning to tape it to my skin in the same spot the Ladycare directions say, with the negative charge against the skin. The Ladycare is supposed to clip onto your underwear, to aim deeply into your pelvis. So I guess I could tape it to the outside of my underwear for greater comfort.

I'm a Breast Cancer survivor so I'm nervous about doing something wrong. Does this sound ok? Thanks!

edit: I'm confused about the electrical charge (+/-) and whether this is the same as North vs South facing. Is the south facing also the negatively charged?

Hi Ladies,
Following a period of anxiety last year, heavy periods and low iron I decided to get the Mirena inserted. I felt better within a month and so far so good. Since Jan I have symptoms that I thought were related to decreasing oestrogen levels and started with oestrogel and then changed to patches. Twice I have had periods of bad insomnia (body feels electric and heart racing as I try and sleep). Fortunately during the day apart from sleep deprivation I can function. Am starting to get suspicious about Mirena - perhaps build up of synthetic progestin and am wondering what I should do. Thought that maybe it will take time for Oestrogen to kickin but perhaps if progesterone levels are low the oestrogen is just making things worse. Any thoughts/comments/advice/stories much appreciated? Many thanks

I had never had those problems before Mirena and I haven't had them since it came out. One of the hypotheses I've read here is that the synthetic progestin in Mirena interferes with the body's own production of progesterone, and the resulting hormonal imbalance (low progesterone relative to estrogen) causes many of the symptoms that people report. Personally, I now tend to think that synthetic hormones do not help our bodies; they may sometimes cover up problems temporarily but at the expense of long-term health.

Hi guys,

My doctor wants to check my blood calcium level as I have osteoporosis. I've not taken any supplements for a couple days as I ran out and won't be getting more for another week when my next ones come in the mail. I don't want to test now since I haven't been taking any.

Would it take a couple weeks of supplementation to get a good result or longer?

I want to get a good result as if I don't she may put me on Fosamax or something similar which I don't want to do.

I have AF but am also in perimenopause (which has many of same symptoms of AF) and I am so weak! My stomach is also really bloated all the time with painful gas (upper abdomen). Just walking to the bathroom makes my heart race. So far all heart tests are normal. Just had a ton of labs run two weeks ago and am awaiting the results. It seems most of my friends on my perimenopause and adrenal support groups are also having orthostatic issues. I know healing the adrenals and getting the hormones straightened out will go a long way to fix this, but just wondering if anyone here has any other suggestions. Thanks.

Hoping for help from those who have done Bill Thompson's and Ted's protocol for candida...What am I doing wrong?!

I have been doing the alkalizing protocol and supplements with Turpentine for the past couple of weeks...I don't know if there is any improvement in my systemic candida, but I got weird side affects.

First, I am in menopause and started hot flashes...bit time! This coordinated with the start of this protocol!

Second, my nails are so brittle and break so easy. They were so long and strong.

  You will always get die-off reactions when you kill high numbers of pathogens. These Herx reactions are partly caused by the die-off -- when a large number of pathogens are suddenly killed, then larger amounts of waste toxinns are released into the blood that the liver must remove. This is why you will feel awful for a while -- because the liver is under stress. This is normal during healing and recovery from candida.     I purchased 500 Mcg tablets and protocol asks for 900mcg. I was wondering if taking two tablets would be too much. I have not been able to figure out best way to do this. 500mcg is a bit more than half recommended.

Today I received my bloodwork from the lab regarding my hormones.

LH-Hormona Luteinizante 3.1mUl/ml
FSH-Hormona Foliculoestimulante 1.6mUl/ml
Estradiol 198 pg/ml

The blood was taken a day after my period.

My gynecologist wishes to put my on birth control, Etinilestradiol Micronizado 0.03mg & Drospirenona 3mg, now to regulate my hormones. The process would last a month or longer. Is this necessary?
