Re: Great advice
stannarad -- I've learned from all the reading/research I've done that candida and
parasites often go hand-in-hand. It seems one makes the other easier to invade, and it may have to do with an inital problem of weakened immunity or compromised digestive tract. Who's to say which comes first, the candida or the parasites? I don't think enough is really known about these conditions at this time or why the spiral downward even starts.
I advise everyone here on the candida board to consider the possibility of candida AND parasites, especially if one has been on anti-candida protocol for some time and isn't making a lot of progress. Both conditions have symptoms in common, but the treatments can be somewhat different, especially if you need a prescription. Some things, like garlic, work for both, which is why I take the garlic enemas. Other cross-overs are coconut oil and ACV, possibly
Grapefruit-Seed-Extract too. Diet alone will not do it.
My approach is to look at the bigger picture and try to get to the bottom of why someone like me, who has always been "health conscious," took vitamins and ate pretty well throughout my life, ended up in this nightmare predicament. One theory says the problems may start with an acidified or out of whack pH, which is largely contributed to by an acidic Western diet: lots of sugar, refined carbs, alcohol and meat, or an absence of alkalizing foods like fruits and vegetables. Another theory I'm reading about is the presence of mercury/amalgam fillings in the mouth. Although the ADA cannot seem to reach a concensus on it, mercury is a known toxin that will actually fume up (not visible to the naked eye) when disturbed (i.e., teethbrushing, eating food, grinding teeth) and get down into your gut. It seems there may be a connection between heavy metals and parasites. My mouth was full of mercury. I had half my
Amalgams removed and never got around to the last three. This is just one of many theories I'm coming across. Another theory is overuse of birth control pills/
Antibiotics . I was on birth control for 10 years. I was sick A LOT those 10 years, but it took that long to put two and two together and get off them. I also did some foreign travel -- doing that on a weakened immune system may just be inviting trouble.
In the end it may just be a combination of any of these that does one's gut/body in.
The existence of
parasites here in the US is much more prevalent that people want to acknowledge or discuss. It's simply a fact and we need to get on it before they get the better of us. There are also theories linking many diseases to advance stages of
parasite infestation, when they have penetrated a weakened intestinal wall and traveled the blood stream to other organs/places in the body.
My advice to you -- if you have even a suspicion of the existence of parasites, look into it more. Colonics/enemas are a good way to get the ball rolling. You may have to be a bit of a detective, making a point to examine your stool, and you may need to poke around in the toilet a little to break things apart and get more info. Disgusting, I know. I use disposable plastic knives and keep lots sanitizing stuff around like bleach, Lysol wipes, rubbing alcohol, etc. I believe there are labs that will test your stool independent of a doctor's order; more info is available in Dr. Crook's most recent candida book "The Yeast Connection Handbook". Look up
parasites in the index. Some should possibly get an Rx, but I really don't know enough about it. I have seen three different kinds of parasites exit my body and it's scary. Apparently I'm a good host to these things. While I wait for stool results, I've taken matters into my own hands and have gotten started on my own treatments. I may take an Rx and holistic approaches simultaneously. I'll know more soon.
If you think you saw a sac or something suspicious/mysterious, act now. Don't do what I did - which was to freeze in paralysis/denial for a time while letting them lay their eggs and multiply. I wish you all the best.
