What makes me angry!!!

I know this is a subject that has been shouted from the roof tops many times on this forum, but when it becomes person, I just feel the need to vent.

Our medical system sucks!!!!! No big surprise there.

Yesterday I went back to my GP. I really didn't want to go. This man is an idiot. But thanks to this man being an idiot I have to consult with a specialist who lives over 2,500 kms away from me. My ND ordered blood tests (T3, T4, -T3, and some others), which my GP deemed unnecessary because in his "learned opinion" my TSH was normal (4.0). Because the pathology form that my ND sent me was on a Tasmanian form and I live in Queensland, the local hospital refused to draw blood. I had no choice but to go back and see the very man who said that there was nothing wrong with me to begin with. I have almost every hypothyroid symptom, but he insisted there was nothing wrong with me. When I showed him the pathology request he got upset. He clearly didn't like being undermined. I told him about the change in thinking regarding the TSH levels and what was considered normal. He told me that by Australian regulations my test results were not abnormal and therefore didn't need further investigation. The fact that I am experiencing symptoms and a reduced quality of life, was not sufficient enough to warrant "further investigation".

What is the world coming to........

He told him that by US standards my results DID in fact come back abnormal. He made no further comment.

This is the same man who panicked when I told him that I was taking iodine. This is the same man who is in charge of the lives of 2000 people in this town. The same man who wants to put my on anti-depressants because my TSH is normal, but my symptoms don't fit with his idea of what they "should" be.

I don't know about you, but this man scares me. I mean he truly scares me. Just a few short years ago, I would have probably taken those anti-depressants. I wouldn't have known any better. I would have had no choice but to trust him. After all, he is the doctor. He is the one who went to medical school, not me. He should know what is good for me. Isn't that the way it's supposed to work. We walk into their offices like lambs to the slaughter and blindly obey whatever garbage they dish out, because "they know better".

THANK GOD FOR THE INTERNET!!!! Thank God for CZ. Thank God for Iodine....Before the internet, I would have done exactly what he said to do. How would I have known any different.

Now in Australia we have Medicare. We can argue the rights and wrongs of medicare some other time, but for me, I think it's awesome. We pay 1% of our annual salaries each year in our taxes, don't even miss it. And we get subsidised medical care and pharmaceuticals. For the low income earners that means "free". For the rest of us, that means relatively cheap. All blood tests and other pathology is always free regardless of income. I am used to the system, and I like it. But now because my blood tests are deemed unnecessary, I have to pay full price. Because the saliva and urine hormone tests that my ND has ordered are deemed unnecessary, I have to pay full price. I don't begrudge paying for the testing. I am eternally grateful that someone is finally taking me seriously enough to test and diagnose me. My point is. Why doesn't mainstream medicine take us seriously. Countless women in this country (and I am sure worldwide) suffer needlessly because their symptoms are "vague" or because the standard blood tests keep coming back "normal". I have been in pain for 30 years. Been lethargic for almost as long. Have had a much reduced quality of life for all that time, and to add insult to injury, been told over and over again, by doctor after bloody doctor, that there was nothing wrong with me, it's all in my head, take anti-depressants!

When will this insane state of complete madness end?
