Re: sanctuary2 - O/T
I couldn't find the link to your email so I will post some links here.
This one should help regarding climate. Just click on the state or area that you are interested in. There is also a spot somewhere on the site that lists annual average temps and rainfall for most areas.

Having trouble finding a site that lists areas that don't fluoridate water. I know Ballina in Northern NSW doesn't and I am sure that areas in Tasmania don't.
I thought the Ag dept site might be helpful.

A couple of good real estate sites will give you an idea of house and land prices, remembering that these are in Aussie dollars, so they are going to look more expensive to you, until you convert.

This is the area that we are moving to:

It has really red fertile soil. They grow all kinds of fruit and veg and macadamia and peanuts. There is tonnes of
Sugar cane too, as with most of coastal Queensland. It's 20 minutes from the most beautiful beaches. 30 minutes from Bundaberg or Hervey Bay. And 3.5 hours from Brisbane. When I lived down south I thought that 3.5 hours was a long drive, but since living in Queensland I have come to appreciate that it is nothing more than a leisurely drive. Here's some stuff on Bundaberg & Hervey Bay.

Tasmania is beautiful and very diverse, however it is way too cold for me in the winter. Their summers would be equivalent to our winter right now. The soil is fertile, and they are very open to alternative lifestyles. It is a lush green, very pretty place rich in history. It is however pretty isolated from the rest of the country, being that it is an island.
If you have never checked out Nimbin NSW, then it is a must. It is the home of alternative lifestyle, and a really cool place. Because it is becoming so popular now though, prices are rising beyond the reach of your average person, IMHO.

Hope this gives you a starting point. If there is anything else you want to know please email me. As for the immigration deal, we have been through that too and could advise you if you need it. Although our situation was different, being that my husband immigrated on a marriage visa, but we still have some experience with dealing with US and Aussie state departments.
Good luck with it all, and hope this info helps.
