Re: sanctuary2 - O/T
WOW.... where to start. Firstly just let me say, Australia is the best! There, now I got that out of the way:
Petrol prices are not good. They jump up and down all over the place. There is a kind of pattern to it. Buy petrol (sorry, gas) early in the week. The prices rise as the week goes on. And it varies greatly from city to rural. Where I live it's $1.30 a litre (sorry don't know the conversion, need my husband here). The cities are probably around $1.10 a litre.
What kind of weather do you like? Australia is a really big place. We have a little of everything. Tonnes of amazing beaches, after all the whole country is an island. But we have very nice mountain areas as well. We do have areas that are renowned for a more "hippy" lifestyle. We just bought 1.5 acres in Childers, which is an area 20 minutes inland, near Hervey Bay, that has very fertile soil and grows everything you can think of. Will never want for fresh food again. Unfortunately it will be around 5 years till we move there.
Internet connect is great. We have high speed broadband. I am connected 24/7 and never have a problem. Mobile phone coverage is pretty good also. We have cable, only we have it via satellite.
Land and housing prices vary greatly. I would be more than happy to send you some links if you narrow it down for me a tad. Give me an idea of climate you are looking for, hot or cold?
As regulars will know I have visited the US half a dozen times and my husband is from there (having lived in TX, MO, ND), and we wouldn't be anywhere else. I was just talking to a friend yesterday who commented to me, "that American's talk about freedom incessantly and yet the US is the most regulated place in the world". Now before you jump up and down and want to kill me, I was only quoting someone else (even if I do agree with them 100%)
(please don't kill me.)
