Need advice about my daughter
Hi, I have a concern about my daughter as she has had some strange things going on. I took her to an ear nose and throat specialist because she was blowing out black debris off and on, along with having major congestion. The doctor was not very receptive to my idea of having her cultured but I insisted and also asked if she felt this black debris could be mold related....and she scoffed at that as well and said it was probably dried blood. I know dried blood when I see it and this is definitely NOT dried blood. At the end of our visit, this doctor also gave her intranasal injections inside each nostril to reduce swelling and naturally there was quite a bit of bleeding.
I went home that day and took a piece of her black debris and cultured it, even though it was contaminated by the Kleenex and mucous. When I checked it sometime later, it was COVERED with black tufted looking mold--to the point that I was afraid to open it and look at it microscopically.
Long story short, 2 weeks later, the lab culture came back positive for Staph Aureus, for which she was given an antibiotic. Now another 2 weeks has past and my daughter is blowing black debris out of her nose again--this time black strings of it. I once again returned to this doctor's office and showed her this, hoping that she would culture it but she felt it was contaminated because it was on Kleenex and didn't even bother to look at it. BUT..she wanted her to have a CT scan.
I became more worried last night when my daughter came home and told me that a boy just related a story to her about his brother dropping dead from having S. Aureus in his nose--however he was never given an antibiotic for it as they didn't find out that he had this bacteria strain in his sinsuses [that allegedly had eaten into his brain] until after the autopsy. So then I start to think that maybe these injections could have possibly put my daughter in further danger of getting this into her bloodstream...??? I am assuming it is dependent upon the strain as to whether it is MRSA, but I am not being told much at this point.
My daughter goes to Va Tech [returning with her roommate who was one of the students that was shot three times and survived] and I was just about to take her back to school this weekend but feel very uncomfortable letting her go off to school without this being resolved.
Aside from getting the CT scan which she is scheduled for tomorrow, I just wondered what your thoughts were on this and what I should know…or whether I am being overly anxious about this? Thanks for your help!
