I recently just found this Mirena bashing fourm and now I am here to defend the Mirena. I have had my IUD since March 05, which was 8 weeks after I had my second child and I was on the patch when I got pregnant. And all that I can say is that I have not had any major problems with it. "I LOVE MY MIRENA". When your GYNO inserts the Mirena in you they tell you all of the side effect that you may possibly get. So if and when you do get a side effect you should already know what to expect. Some of the side effects that people on here complain about I think are all psycholgical, i.e weight gain, back pains, loss of energy, no sex drive. I will admit I did gain weight after I placed the IUD in but I don't think that is was due the IUD, it was all of the junk that I was eating after I changed my diet the weight dropped like it was never there. In my opinion the side effect that I have incurred since out weighs the long term effects of not being on any birth control or one that if I miss a day I may become pregnant. I personally will recommend the Mirena to all my friends. This is my quicker sticker up her/ Stick it and forget birth control.
