Re: Most GOOD natural remedies DO not work.

Illogical and full of argument errors like is customary

It is not mainstream media propaganda that many so called natural herbs and spices (if you get 9 more you have the Colonel's secret recipe) have failed to show any efficacy when scientifically studied.  It is not outlandish to say what science backs up, that in many cases these so called cures offer zero benefit or offer very little benefit.  It is one of the reason they are so often side-effect free.  They have negligible physiological effect.    Sure there are success stories, yet these are vastly outnumbered by the empty promises.

Many times natural cures are like psychic powers; they only work when they work, or when no one is looking.   You got to love the way DQ hedges his bet "The RIGHT natural remedies and natural approach to healing works almost all of the time"; now if a particular "natural remedy" did not work all he has to say is that it wasn't the right one.  They only work when they work; and when they work they work almost all the time.   This is the rock solid logic that makes the accusations of snake-oil so prevalent.

Modern medicine has a wonderful track record of success.  From polio to smallpox; diabetes to appendicitis, typhoid and cholera.   Diseases which used to kill people and now under proper medical care do not.  One imagines that there were supposed 'natural cures' for these conditions, none of them worked.   Many times these are not cures and the anti-science cabal will yell it out, yet these people are alive and between disease management and death, I feel confident which they prefer.

Natural practitioners and AM claim to treat the body as a whole, this is a vacuous claim.  They don't even understand fully understand a single cell, how can the claim about the whole body be treated as nothing more than an empty boast.  BTW scientists do not fully understand the complexities of a single cell either, but that is the point; if you don't know the parts how can you know the whole?

It is also a false accusation that modern medicine treats patients in parts.  Modern doctors and researchers are keenly aware of the complexities of a biological system.  Far more so than the local quack selling cures or the Not Doctors where you get your prescription.   Researchers have developed complex computer models that rely on supercomputers to now analyze how one pathway can affect another.   Computer time is dedicated to search for possible interactions among proteins.  You can be part of this research, for more information click here
and check out options under Biology.

There is the old accusation that companies are not interested in natural substances because there is no money in it because it is unpatentable.  Again false.  All we have to do is look at our pharmacies row after row of vitamins, supplements from various companies.  We can then visit our natural health store and see more rows of seaweed pills, kava kava, st johns wort, and so on.  And none of these companies had to spend 1 billion dollars to launch a single drug.  It is their interest to drum up suspicion of modern medicine to get more people to buy their products.... it is how they make their PROFIT.   They are making profit from human suffering.  Given the number of companies in this field there seems to be plenty of money to keep them all afloat.

Thanks to modern medicine the average male can now reach an age once only a lucky few got to.  We have added about 25 years of life to the average person since the 1900s.  Childbirth used to be among the most dangerous experience a woman could have, that is no longer so.

I would be nice if some really effective naturally available cures were out there.   What would be nicer is that the companies making these so called cures sponsor universities to research the efficacy of their claims.   Otherwise it is just hot air and empty claims.

We cannot blame modern medicine for the aspects of present life and the choices that people make.  Doctors and Pharmaceutical companies aren't telling people to smoke or drink, use drugs, destroy their livers, kidneys.  They don't stuff calories into people mouths and they do not recommend obesity for anyone.
You can't put the blame on pharmaceutical companies because people engage in unhealthy behaviour.  It is not pharmaceutical companies that make you fat which carries increased chance of diabetes, various cancers, artherosclerosis, strokes, arthritis, high blood pressure and so much more. Doctors are not blocking your way to the gym or preventing you from a daily walk, they are not removing veggies from your dinner table and replacing them with candy.  They are not to blame for the bad choices that people make.

The fault is yours (general not specifically yours) and to place the blame on medicine is illogical, wrong and unethical.

Finally we could argue that you too are profiting from human suffering and it is in your best interest to promote paranoia about modern medicine.  By building distrust you profit, you profit by selling your products which are targeted to the sick and those that distrust medicine.    The same arguments that you use against Pharmaceutical companies can be used against you.
