Re: The Notion of Reinfection

Well, I've ALWAYS cleaned my fruits/vegs and if I prepare meat I always rinse it. Washing my hands is a must in all cases! If I don't see or know that person didn't wash their food before serving it to me, I don't eat it. I did this before knowing about parasites.

Bad hygiene from others does make me a bit paranoid and the high probably of reinfection due to people's laziness is somewhat of a concern. Today on the evening news there was another story about shopping carts with fecal matter on the handles. Truly a gross thought!

Aside from all of that, I would still think that a person wouldn't become reinfected once they got rid of their parasites completely and got their immune systems intact. This also includes taking all the precautions and regular maintenance.

I'm just having a hard time believing that so many people are getting "reinfected", when in fact thay didn't get rid of the problem completely. Unless it is my imagination, it seems as though a majority of people are cleaning regularly (forever) without real results.

According to Webster's dictionary, reinfection means -- "infection following another infection of the same type.

Here's what my Stedman's Medical dictionary has to say. "A second infection by the same microorganism, after recovery from or during the course of a primary infection."
